anyone use a SUPER FMU or help build 300hp

Super Fuel management unit by vortech

it is a rising rate fuel pressure regulator

i have come upon a situation.. my car has the following mods my goal is to hit 300

ok let me list what is holding my car together

ported engine
walbro fuel pump
FMIC
hard piping 2.5"
S-FMU
550 injectors
racing beat ECU
safc2
fc1000
7psi-9psi

i blew my last tubo coolant leak so i sub- for modified stock turbo.

well this winter i am planningon getting another hybrid turbo so it can bolt up with out much hassle to my engine

i also have brand new engine harness on stand by ..

my intention was to swap my old (20yr old) engine harness for new one and with above mods be able to hit 300 with new R magic turbo.

i believe my old enegien harness is giving in consistent electrical reading

also in motionis to replace MAF with brand new one from MAZDA

cost to this; harness plus MAF $1400 approx.

or do i scrap everything and go another route... i would like sure fire way to hit 300+ at the wheels at 9 psi

What fuel pump would you run with it? Your going to have some jacked up high fuel pressures. I've never known anyone that used a FMU on a rotary. Why not just give it a try and report back on how it worked out.

sirx7 11-21-06 04:28 PM

can i use power fc on FC3s? well i am currently using it i just don't know if i am using it correctly. or to its full efficency

sirx7 11-22-06 01:07 PM

well i am currently using it i just don't know if i am using it correctly. or to its full efficency i mean the Super FMU

so does a power Fc work on 2nd gen FC3s

No_Rotor_RX7 11-22-06 05:41 PM

the Super FMU is intended mostly for cars that were not made for boost in the first place. it raises the fuel pressure around 12:1 i think so it just floods the injectors and makes you run richer. not a great/ safe way to go about tuning.

you need a real ecu and the Power FC will only work on the S5 TII's with some minor work. there is a write-up on this if you need to know. if you have an S4 model then get a haltech, microtech, etc....

RETed 11-22-06 09:50 PM

12:1?
I swear I seen a 10:1 version?
Maybe there's multiple ratio version out there?

At 9psi, 12:1 mean you're at 108psi!
Almost no off-the-shelf fuel pump will flow fuel at that high fuel (rail) pressure!
Also, if you manage to hit those pressure levels, there's a chance you're going to LOCK the fuel injectors!

Those "FMU's" are hack band-aid's for people who don't know how to tune correctly.

ted is dead on. and yea there are a couple different versions. i've seen the 12:1 and even a 15:1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rediculous... i only know this 'cause i help build (gasp..) turbo hondas and this is their favorite way to boost cheaply.. i hate it :( haha

RETed 11-22-06 11:56 PM

Yeah, those things were made for non-turbo engines running 5psi max!
It's a band-aid fuel solution with the least amount of install fuss.
This is just gross addition of fuel into the engine through a crude device.

thats a nice way to kill your fuel injectors and blow your engine. many of my honduh buddies learned the hard way. good for people runin boost and carbs though.

sirx7 11-23-06 11:30 AM

ok i a running s5 tII

i have removed the stock fuel pressure regulator that in the hardline.

if i ditch the S FMU what should i replace it with.

can R magic ECU support higher boost with just safc for minor adjustment.. how will i increase the amount fuel for 11-14 psi

sirx7 11-23-06 11:32 AM

should i get a new engine harness?

should i get a new MAF?

can i safely hit 300 hp with chipped ECU and just SAFC2 with dual stage boost controller..

will mainly run 7 psi and will hit 11 psi when i really want it go

No_Rotor_RX7 11-23-06 11:40 AM

as for a fuel pressure regulator you only need one that is 1:1 boost dependant. that's it. hahahah not 12:1 rising rate. what you don't want is a static fpr that never raises fuel pressure at all.

we've had fc's anywhere from 200 - 250rwhp using the stock ecu with an fcd and safc. i don't like that setup but it can work. this was with slightly larger secondary injectors. with the right amount of fuel and an rtek i think you could safely hit your 300rwhp goal granted everything else is ready for it. what turbo are you running?

sirx7 11-23-06 05:17 PM

i planing on getting a R magic turbo since i have R magic ECU

i found teh write up on POwer FC to use in fc3s .. maybe i should upgrade to that

what do u think?

i am asking for opinions casue enough people have hit 300 with their cars and have already learned from it and what they would do diffrent if they were to do it all over again. (why make same mistakes twice i want learn form the people who already been there)

i don't want to reinvent the wheel but i would like to use as many of the parts i already have .. scrapping everything and buying new thing is last option on list

RETed 11-23-06 10:51 PM

Dude, you need to do more homework...
Just because you have an RMagic ECU doesn't necessarily mean you NEED an RMagic turbo.
The RMagic turbo isn't anything special - it's just a hybrid.

RRFR and FD

I have for years used a Cartech RRFR with a Apexi PFC and stock injectors. Reason...To4e 57 trim .84 a/r p wheel stock ported motor. Needed a little extra fuel to run 13psi, wide band confirmed 11.5-1 afr. People want to call this a "band aid" so be it...along with my other "band aids" water injection, turbo charger and intercooler...

http://www.cartech.net/fmu2020.htm

sirx7 11-27-06 10:14 AM

RETed,, i know i can use any turbo .. i jsut wanted to use like parts from same manufacturer.

my question was not reagrding my turbo manufacturer size .. i was jsut pointing out i am going to use hybrid turbo similar if not a R magic Turbo

sirx7 11-27-06 10:23 AM

jack: that is the very reason of logic i used to get Super FMU (RRFPR) and i have only got comments such as it as oh you are using band aid solution..

but my purpose was to increase fuel only once i start exceeding the 6psi boost range once i start leaving stock boost area.. i used it all of two years now.. and by far my mileage in gas is still the same as stock car.

my entire purpose was to attain 300+ what should i do? and after talking to some people
and review whati read on here from people who did affer me links o i can read on topics and make decision

i have decided
to remove the safc2 ..
i am going to power FC w/ commander
a brand new engine harness
and apexi map sensor.air intake sensor

and go that route.. and hopefully with tunning and upgraded injectors hit the 300 mark.

so i come down to ask how big of an injector should i go with do i do all four or just secondaries
