Anyone use larger low mount turbo in Dr. side location?
 

So, I want to upgrade my turbo but don't want it in front of my engine (why stick a heavy ass turbo in front of your engine when you can get and alum. block V-8 for cheaper).

On rotary turbo exhaust manifolds does anyone come straight out of the exhaust ports and then run the tubes around the top of the engine over to the dr. side of the engine bay?

I was thinking stainless "e" pipe w/ ceramic coating on the outside so it doesn't transmit heat/ lose thermal energy.

I;m not sure if i'm understanding you right but as far as weight goes you wanna transfer the weight of the turbo to the driver side instead of the passenger? This is what i'm assuming cause i havnt seen to many turbo on RX-7s in front of the engine, except some crazy kids on this board. But i would think the exhaust piping putting the turbo on the driver side would be worse but i'm still not really sure what you are trying to avoid.

i think your thinking of 3rd gen's. A lot of the manifolds for fd's place the turbo slighty foward in the engine bay. This is because they dont have much room between the engine and the shock tower for a large turbo to fit. On an FC there is much more room. My 60-1 with the 1.32 hotside fits just fine right to the side of the engine with an equal length manifold.

I wouldn't run it to the other side,
1 it would be a PITA
2 your going to run into heat problems
3 i would think that you'd lose air speed on the exhaust side with such a run before the turbo creating mucho lag.
