anyone running a totally stock ignition system?
I've never modified an ignition system at all. When should you think about getting your spark some help?
stock should be good for at least 10psi because that's stock boost pressure. what if you had a stock motor, except large street port and 3" exhaust, still on 10 psi (& some extra fuel) would you need more spark? my gt35/large street port/3" exh. setup won't see more than 15psi. what do I need? thanks for any help or ideas. |
people go 400+ with stock ignition systems all the time. maybe msd for leadings and two for trailings if you got tha' cash.

i had stock ignition with my setup for a while and after 1500 miles or so i start to get breakup at 15psi, but still fine at 10. hope that helps

that's good to hear. thanks.

the twin power always works nice if your looking to break 400

There are several factors that come into play - age/wear of stock coils, type of plugs used, etc. I personally have not upgraded my ignition system, other than relocating the coils and running race plugs. Current setup is: stock motor, 3 inch exhaust, GT35r single, FMIC, 1600cc secondaries, 550cc primaries, and PFC running 15-16 lbs on the street using 93 octane fuel.

I have just a twin power and get no break-up at 21 psi even with the methanol.

20psi with alcohol/ 93 octane, twin power.

Msd 8204 primary twin post coil, Msd 8207 blaster railing coils, and 3 mallory boxes... I'm waiting on the startup but I'm sure it will be sweet :)
I ran an msd 6a on the stock leading coil and liked it a lot. Adding in an ignition amp isn't that much work. Don't worry about modding the ignition system unless you currently have breakup or are going for 450+ IMO |
thanks for the info guys!

didnt ground zero go 600+ with just a twin power a few years back?
|
I run a completely stock ignition on my FD. Coils have about 120K and i have no problems up to 14 psi. Once i hit 15 i start to get break up though. To be safe i run the car on 12psi on the street with no problems.

A friend of mine runs 42 psi on his supra with just twin power and has no break up and i run 20 on my fd no problem.
|
I've ran 20 psi on stock ignition with no break up. This was with a new oem leading coil and NGK 10.5 race plugs. What I don't understand is why certain tuners need an ignition upgrade for every car they tune past stock boost levels:uh:
