Again someone needs advice on what turbo to choose.

I'm gonna go single soon but don't know what turbo to choose. As a start im not aiming for any numbers, just to get it running good, but so that u know what kind of turbo i may need i want to get into 300 whp without much boost, about 12 PSI.
I've got an "OBX racing" manifold lying around that i thought i could get to use, but if i need to i can weld on a different flange.

My engine is stock and im planning to get a custom FMIC for this and larger secondary injectors(1300 or 1600cc)

What i want is a turbo that spools up fast( who does'nt) and can make the hp that i want, also be able to get alittle higher if i decide to rebuild and streetport the engine.

I don't know much about turbos so if u know a great site that explain's everything from different house sizings and etc let me know.

So what turbo do u recommend?

Should add that i can get a new Garret GT40 pretty cheap with an A/R 0.84(0.85), but i think it's probably on the too big side.

turbonetics 60-1 great turbo, fast spool , and will make 300hp very very easy , with boost its good up to 500~550 range (i could be slightly off)
for 300hp i think 1600cc inj are overkill
96 a/r on turbine side and off you go

i agree, a 60-1 sounds like what you want

if you want to spend some more money, the GT35R kit should do the job nicely.

Stock turbos will easily get you 300 RWHP at 12 psi. However, if you want a single for different reasons, I can understand that. Just be aware that you don't need to go single for your power goals, and no single will spool as well as the sequential twins.

I have indeed read about a few people that makes 300 rwhp on 12 PSI but is that really possible on stock ports? And if so i think lots of the results is in the tuning and i'm not sure how good tuners we have in my country concerning rotaries.

This ain't the only reason though, i have a few reasons besides that to go single.

Any comments on the gt40?

how about this one?

garrett super 60-1, a/r 70. 4 inch inlet rear p trim 70 twin entry a/r

Got this info from another forum. Someone is selling it for $1040 with a polished housing.

Stock turbos

I concur with Max. I got something like 307 rwhp at 12-13 psi on stock turbos with an intake, IC, and open exhaust. I now have a mild street port and have gotten almost 320 rwhp at 12-13 psi by leaning things out slightly. Without the high-rpm ignition breakup, it may have been closer to 330 rwhp. I run it at 300 rwhp at the track at 12 psi with a pig rich a/f ratio all day long .

u can make 300 RWHP on intake, IC, DP, MP, and CB.

See my thread in the time slips and dyno section. the graph on the left is stock ports, 11 lbs, pettit unlimited ECU, intake, dp, res, mp, cb. 311 rwhp.

ok, i know it's fairly easy to get 300whp on stock turbos and engine. But i want single for other reasons aswell.

Do u think the turbo i suggest a few reply's back is good?

XSTransAm 04-24-04 11:40 AM

i dont know specifics about that turbo, but that rear exhaust housing sounds too small for a rotary.

mazdaspeed00 04-24-04 08:48 PM

try looking at the apexi rx6 and HKS/XS t04e kits

rzograbian 04-25-04 03:30 AM

what about the Blitz KKK-27 kit? is that a good turbo for our car's?

It is IMO and I'm sure in many other people's opinions. You can buy an exhaust housing and change it to .96 .84 1.15 etc as long as you buy one for a p trim exhaust wheel or whatever trim wheel your turbo has. But IMO for $1000.00 and then have to change the exhaust housing, you might as well buy a new one.

The garret GT40 i mentioned has the A/R 0.96 exhaust and 0.84 compressor. Will this turbo do good? Will it be laggy? I don't know much about turbos( as u probably already figured) but im gonna read up on them, in the mean time i'm asking here what u think, cause here's where the reallife experience exists.
