after boost, smoke

i know the car smokes for a few seconds on start up, but i want to know if it is surpose to be worst after boost. like if i boost it and let the timer shut down for like 30sec, then start it up a minute later (goin in to the store) should it smoke more then nomal? the smoke is slightly denser then normal for about a few sec (like 3) then go away.

Thank
Tony

could be the turbo is worn.

are you running premix?

Azcamel 07-30-08 02:08 AM

yea, 4-6oucs per full fill up. turbo is a GT42 1.15hot side, 8k on it.

marcus219 07-30-08 02:41 AM

thats on top of the OMP? do you have the right restrictor in the feed line? oil return is setup right? just throwing ideas at you not knocking you set your car up. mine doesn't smoke at all really so your situation is not "normal"

Turblown 07-30-08 03:04 AM

Sounds like an engine problem to me.

Post pictures of the spark plugs with at least 4k miles on them.

Azcamel 07-30-08 06:42 AM

8an on both feed and return line. will take pic of the plug when i change them out.

Busted7 07-30-08 09:25 AM

You never noticed most run 3-4 an feed and 10 an return?
Your feeding in the oil under pressure but draining the oil by gravity i think you need to rethink your set up!:) And if its ball bearing you might need a restrictor.

BASTARD 07-30-08 09:55 AM

unless you over heated your motor

it could be leaky injector

too much premix

or your getting blow by thru your turbo

Azcamel 07-30-08 12:32 PM

im thinking premix...i ran a tank without premix and it didn't smoke, hardly noticeable, but the thing is i only add about 4-6ounces per fill up..
i'll try it again with out premix and double check, i'll just lower the premix amount but i've herd guys using that much and not have problems. BTW, im using the walmart brand supertech TW3 mix

Are you still using the OMP?

Azcamel 07-30-08 08:17 PM

just double check, seems to still have the OMP.

Turblown 07-30-08 08:43 PM

Is the oil level dropping? Didn't you mention you were getting a lot of oil in your catch can a week or so ago?

First things first I would change those oil lines.

Azcamel 07-31-08 05:22 AM

ok... i think its the coolant seal. i took the car out boosted it and saw somke, parked it and saw somke. open the oil cap and catch can cap and i see this.. anyone ever see this before?http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/9777/p7300130ch7.jpg

I did not notice any water/coolant at all in the cylinder..
What is going on?

I also recently did the distilled water to clean the engine, it smoked the same way as the car did tonight. it leads me to assume that they was still oil in the engine, as i did not give it enough time to get all the water out of the oil. im going to change the oil in the next day or so and then keep and eye on things.

another thing i notice is that the foam/residue is idential to a old oil pan i had left outside when it rain, looks identical to oil/water mixture when left out for a bit, leads me to think that i did not do a good job of getting the water out of the engine when i did the flush and the water mixed with the oil.

Turblown 07-31-08 07:42 PM

If you're intake tract is not full of oil( as in coming from the compressor seal on the turbo) it looks to me likes its a motor problem. There is burnt oil all over those plugs....

Quit running premix all together and see what happens, I highly highly doubt thats the problem, but its always nice to know before doing anything major.

Uhmm, bad oil control seals, two much premix, or bad stepping motor on OMP jammed in wide open position.

With an 8 an drain line i wouldnt be suprised if it wasnt feeding oil through the ic pipe! Check and see if its oily!

Azcamel 08-01-08 02:45 AM

no oil in the ic pipe. i think the water got there because i did the distilled water through the vac line to clean it, guess i didnt' let it run long enough to get it out before i shut it off, flush the oil tonight with 8qt and no oil or foam/milky stuff anymore, no smoke either. I guess lesson learn is to let the engine run long enough to get all the water out if you do the water cleaning thing.

Busted7 08-01-08 09:45 AM

Glad its working for you i know how much it sucks to think somethings going wrong! :icon_tup:

Azcamel 08-02-08 05:36 AM

thanks man, i was sweating a rebuild for a minute

jay85gs 08-10-08 12:30 PM

Oil supply line might be too large

Busted7 is right on the money!

I'm in the process of turbo charging my FB, and in my research on the turbo supply line the optimal size is -3an to -4an for journal bearings and ball bearing turbo's need less oil than journal bearings.

However on the drain side of things -10an seems to be the most used, since it's a gravity drain it should be larger than your supply line. -8an in -8an out might just be your problem.

Hope this helps..................Jay

Azcamel 10-17-08 05:09 PM

update.. well its the turbo, finally gave enough play that it smoked all the time... Turbo rebuild time.
