87 Tii

i got a new ecu cuz mine was literally cooked, so now my car actually starts, the only problem now is that it won't stay running all the time, sometimes it will idle but must idle high and sometimes it just starts and rev hit 1000 rpm and it dies. any ideas on what it might be just to let you all know that car has been sitting for about 2 years and starts right away when i pour fuel directly into the intake(under the inter cooler) any help would be greatly appreciated

anyone else think it might be the fuel filter or something to do with the fuel delivery?

sounds like vacuum leaks man.

my 87 tii was like that when I got it aswell... I ordered a master block off plate kit from 2751 engineering, got rid of all the emissions garabge/rats nest and haven't looked back.

an AFM issue will allow engine to start but die almost immediately..check to make sure your fuel pump is working, change fuel filter, you can check injectors as well make sure there firing properly. is the ECU the right one for your year car?

=87RX7TII= 07-22-08 07:55 PM

yes proper ecu will have to check out all this stuff this weekend and see hows it goes tahnx to all

=87RX7TII= 07-22-08 09:22 PM

jw aswell whats AFM stand for?never heard that term before

=87RX7TII= 07-22-08 09:36 PM

in regards to londamazda taking all that stuff off doesnt effect anything? like performance wise the car will still run the same as if they were on there?

marcus219 07-22-08 10:08 PM

air flow meter. on are cars its actually a MAF because its a mass air flow meter but anyways all regarding the air flow meter

=87RX7TII= 07-23-08 12:17 AM

i thought about the MAF just AFM was a new term, thnx for all the help hope some of this advice works

marcus219 07-23-08 01:07 AM

im not sure of your setup as you didnt say. but you may want to ask yourself...

"oh standalone ECU, where art thou?" hahhah

weird humor late at night my apologies. lol

=87RX7TII= 07-26-08 10:12 AM

fuel pump working, fuel filter changed, timing reset, injectors checked, so by process of elimination i'm guessing its the AFM/MAF now is to either get it checked or get a new/used one unless there are any other ideas as to what it might be your replies are greatly appreciated

88t2romad 07-26-08 10:27 AM

clean the connections on the MAF and plug before you get a new one. Make sure the flap door swings freely. People have found shit like rats and stuff in there:icon_no2:

=87RX7TII= 07-26-08 11:29 AM

2 things to reply
1 connections do look a little dirty
and 2 i did a search for the part number and the AFM i have is for N/A not Turbo not sure if makes a diff
oh and also the only way to get the car running is to poor gas into the throttle body then it starts but must hold gas to have it stay running forgot about that info sorry

=87RX7TII= 07-27-08 11:19 PM

i did this to check for ECU codes but nothing popped up so i guess everything on the list is working properly http://fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/ERRORC...KI/zerror.html

=87RX7TII= 07-27-08 11:22 PM

gonna check fuel pump and injectors again

=87RX7TII= 08-07-08 10:02 AM

well officially out of ideas i have checked pretty much every thing i can think of and others have told me to check so now car is being brought to my local Mazda for diagnosis, that is whenever their machine is working well thanks to everyone who replied and tried to help it is appreciated and i will update once the car gets looked at probably a few weeks.
