62-1 turbo swapped out to a t66?
my buddy has rx7 store 62-1 turbo kit, and the turbo is finally going out on my buddys ride.. he asked me if we can just replace the turbo with a new one or soemthing..
I told him he can get it rebuilt for cheap, or he can sell it, or rebuild then sell, and upgrade to a different turbo if his goals have changed.. I pretty much spoke before i knew anything about swapping turbo sizes.. He now wants to run a t66 turbo in place of the 62-1.. can he do this? the flange is the same and the dp is still a vband, but i dont know the physical size difference? is this just a turbo swap or is there more modifications that need performed to make this right?? |
You need to compare the two and make sure they both have the same hotside (divided vs. non divided) and the same type of CHRA (oil cooled vs. oil & water cooled). Then you will likely need to clock the turbo to make everything lines up with your piping.

yeah there both divided. and there both oil cooled... and clocking it is no biggy.. other than that it should bolt up right?

As long as it has the same turbine discharge flange, otherwise you will need to modify the DP to fit, which is much easier if it is not rerouted.
