450 rwhp what are your set ups ?
I have a 94 fd with a street port. Looking for a good single set up for 450 rwhp on the high boost setting . So a range of 400-450 rwhp sounds like my target .I have already got some great information about single packages, RX6, GT3540, T78. They all seem like they could give me what I want out of my motor , however I hope some guys with these numbers could send me a pm and walk me threw some of the " have to " items I need and what you have heard about problems I may run into once I am at thouse high HP numbers .The more I research the more questons I have ....
But any help is appreciated . |
I have a Street port-3mmapex seal engine with a t-78, custom front mount, full exhaust, DIS-2 and Magnacore spark enhancment, pettit chip, manual boost control set to 12lbs, and a adjustable fuel pressure regulator, upgraded pump and I am pushing well over 450hp.

RX6 will be too small for what you want.
T-78 will be too big I think - especially for the street GT35/40 would be a very good pick T04S would be a good pick too You MAIN problem is going to be tuning. What engine management are you going with? Who is going to tune it? Brian P.S. Did I see your car at Sweetwater's on Route 7 a few weeks ago? |
LOL, Sweetwater , could be when the hose was broken at my place . A neat freak with a white car ...bad combination .White 94 w/ j spec 99 wing ? Not sure if I saw you though . I did see a nice black one off rt 28 but didnt get a great look at the car ...black r1 ? with huge brakes ?
As for my engine managment its a PFC and I am getting tuned between RP performance and KDR |
i agree... the GT35/40 or T04S could get you there

what exhaust hsg a/r do you suggest for that output, either on gt3540 and t04s setups?

I have a Garrett T60-1 : .70 comp. w/ 1.00 A/R
if your into more drag racing get the 1.15 A/R ....I mostly auto-x and road race so the 1.00 works better The T04E OR T60-1 is the best all around turbo for a large single port or street ported motor.... Its great for the road course, pulls great 1/4 times and is streetable...Of course there are other turbo's too, but I tend to lean towards the T60-1.... there cheap too! Brad |

I didnt think you could get that much power out of a t78 at 12psi...how much is "well over"? ........................... gt35/40...thats the pick of the season for those kind of numbers. youll need my mod list...PLUS 1600s and the rail...plus a much better fuel pump....possibly ignition...plus a great tuner. Im sure you will find a hundred other things that need replacing when you go that deep. Keep a few grand available for things that pop up...well thats the best way I found...things never were only do this and that...there were always other issues with parts that would come up. good luck to you....a finely tuned rx with parts of your choosing can lead to a great car for you. j |
I make the power you want.
|
You'll want to go with an exhaust housing of about 1.00 I think.

I am somewhere around 500HP at flywheel. Somewhere around 420-430rwhp normally. I am gona get me some injectors and a ems and pull 18-20lbs high boost and run 12 low. My car pulls like a scolded ass ape. I dunno what all the talk about the t-78 not being streetable and for a daily driver. Personally, I am normally in vacume *not pushing the gas hard enough to boost* so it doesnt matter to me.
|
as a t78 owner and daily driver teh only thing a t78 is too big for is autocross but then most singles are. to4s too small for what hes looking for in my opinion because its gonan push more heat at 450rwhp but it wil spool sligthly better. the gt3540 is an excellet pick but tends to lean mroe towards streetability than power. the t78 i have always seen as the ULTIMATE street turbo and have yet to see something else taht suits my taste even if it isnt a ball bearing turbo. my turbo spools hard and fast and runs like a raped ape and yet still provides just enough low end power and boost to drive comfortably. lag is present but not soemthign to be worried about unless you go with a t88 or t51kai and then you are gonna put down like 475 on low boost but la like a mofo whereas teh t78 is highly reasonable and puts out 450 on low boost.... anyway till someone finally sizes a good ballbearing turbo to the 1.3liter rotary my two thumbs up still go for the greddy t78 TurboTime, congrats on finally getting your engine installed. How ya like it? |
Bret RP Performance ,did a great job on the street port, it pulls much better and screams to the red line . I just started to " drive " it a bit last week.Had my first kill on Sunday . I have been a bit on the cautious side since this is my third core in three years :bash: I have about 3k on it , had Dave tune it at KDR but fell far short of my HP goal 400 rw. I knew I had to replace my PFS stuff and go with a FMIC , but wasnt aware of the high air intake temps with his cold air box  I am so happy I got the PFC and didn get talked into a Purple Box .I also didnt have my boost controler in and my midpipe is on order . With those two mods I think I can hit 370 at 15psi on the BNR's . But heres my problem...burning oil....venting oil out my BOV. :banghead:These are a bit "untested " so I knew it was a gamble, but I did want to stay with twins .Now looking at my choices to have them replaced and take another chance , or just go single and know I will get the HP I want and a much simplier set up.I need a ride in one of you guys car . Just dont scare the shit out of me :worship:The Dulles Lowes Friday night cruise started again 5-8 so if you can stop some time . I was surrounded by Mustangs last week and could have used soem non-piston support :ar:.Send me a pm if you want to meet , I have a few good shots of my new motor but have no way of posting them if someone want to see the last few moments of my twin set up :zip:

send the bnrs back...he should fix em for ya Id think.
do you have stage 3s? j |
Somewhere around 420-430rwhp normally. |
send them back , yes for credit not replacment . Odds are they will fail again , and I know 400wrhp on stage II's isnt possible. I rather go fo the single and pass on the chance of pulling these replacing them and having to revisit the situation a year form now . Nothing against BNR, its just short of my expecation , and its not working properly after only 3k miles

How similar is a t66 to a t78. I am getting a T66 but can't decide if I should go with the BB of not. It will cost about $1500.0 cdn more.
|
A T-66 P-trim is nearly indentical to a T-78.
|
Is their anything a T66 Q Trim would be similar to. Do you know what the difference is between housings in performance. Is it mainly a compromise between top end and low end power considering 1.32 and a .70?
Thanks for the info. |
God, don't waste your time with BB turbo's, there absolute junk... I've never personally owned one, but I'm friends with Kevin Wyum and he has 2 T66 BB's on his custom manifold and the first 2 turbos went bad at like 23 miles and then I think it happend again real soon after that, then it took forever and a day to get them back....
I'd agree with who ever said the T66 are the best turbo's though....I wanted to get a T66 but wanted to keep it simpler with not having to deal with custom manifold..... The T60-1 works real nice for me, and compared to T78 it won't stand up in a drag, but I'll have fun trying too :) Great conversation! there is alot to be learned from all this turbo talk.....thanks guys!!! The T60-1 works real nice for me Several years ago, we've produced 421 rwhp with a 60-1 turbo on pump gas (91 octane) with octane booster for insurance. It's a P-trim and was boosting 22 psi (I don't remember the exact figures). Anyhow, 450 rwhp is possible with today's technology w/ C16 fuel and a higher boost on a 60-1 turbo. The car was a 1st gen with a 3rd gen motor, street port, stock seals, TEC-II, etc. |
