13b-t turbo options

so im wanting to upgrade my turbo from the tiny stock one, mainly to get rid of annoying boost creep. i have 87 turboII, and im curious to see what my options are by sticking with my stock manifold......

Only thing you can do with a stock manifold is a hybrid.

1) the stock S4 manifold limits you to a hybrid turbo
and
2) upgrading the turbo makes boost creep worse, porting the wastegate or going with an external wastegate is the only way to help eliminate boost creep.

so either you're looking at changing the whole turbo setup including manifold and wastegate or find a hybrid turbo upgrade. both of which require modifying the fuel system to provide the more needed fuel.

a big limitation with the stock manifold and internal wastegate is boost control. Even with a ported gate you may have to have a somewhat restrictive exhaust to keep boost under control in all weather conditions.

There's a local turbo shop here in ocala,fl that takes garrett t3 turbos and puts the factory s4 or s5 turbine flange on the t31 turbine housings. he can pretty much make you anything you want for a stock hitachi ht18s or a hybrid. his name is charlie brown and heres a link to his store

alright... thanks for the info... my engine blew from the stupid boost creep so im thinking of going hybrid after i rebuild and/or buy a new engine.

No it doesnt, S4 or S5 manifold and turbo have the same footprint. Which means you are still limiting yourself to hybrids. S5 have a larger wastegate, but as mentioned before, boost control will be an issue.

Here is a post that might lead you in the righ direction (for what you want to do):

With a ported s5 wastegate and a high flow cat you should be ok to keep boost low enough that it can be safe. It's not an ideal setup for flow but you have to work within your constraints.
