got my tags today for old yella..
lifetime regi for both.. no more inspections for her.. only safety for the R2 until next year..
stickerless windshield for the R1... down to just one on the ssm
and no front plate in general....

when livin in joisee... found the collector status early on and was able to take advantage of that..
noone was aware of it until they started questioning my triangle inspection sticker at meets...

 

I'm up next year in VA, can't wait... even safety inspections started to be a real hassle.

at least the sticker placement in VA is symmetrical.. that is if you had to choose
easier placement than the corner where they screw up position most of the time.. eye sore

 

They are supposed to drive it into the bay, but the guy asked me to drive it in, then looked at my car driving and told me the shocks were too stiff and couldn't pass it. Also, VA rules that inspectors need to look for and verify the existence of emissions equipment, even if it isn't an emissions inspection. Another guy tried to tell me my 330mm aftermarket steering wheel was too small (it's actually not, but they can technically thumb you for not having the airbag, even if the light isn't on). Sticker was the least of my concerns.

 

No inspection for 1995 and older cars here in NJ. No sticker

 

they do more than that here... they actually road test it.. which sucks

glad for you guys in commy joisee that this is the case... feels like the shackles were released dont it..
dismissal of emissions when i was there required that you had to have had the car registered as a collector..
do you still have to pay regi every year..

 

Makes me glad that Kansas doesn't have any of the inspection b.s., for sure.

 

My state has ‘Historical’ and ‘Special Interest’ designations. The Special Interest costs an extra $50 annually but no extra cost for a message and they only issue one plate...for the rear. The Historical plate requires the car to be over 30 years old but isn’t renewed and the car is never taxed. The registration for it was issued in 1986.

 

We have similar rules here in Michigan. One other cool thing they do is; if you can find a plate for your specific year vehicle you can run THAT in lieu of a historical plate.

So if you have a 1973 240Z and find a 1973 license plate (on eBay or wherever) - you are in business.

^ Yep. But by the time my state authorized use of the old plates, my historical plates were sort of...antique.
Besides, the period plate for 1952 was kind of a nasty yellow/orange. Look closely and you’ll see a couple examples above the car.

That would actually be awesome! I bet if you repainted the plate in CYM (then painted the letter as well) you could get away with it.

There are a few companies that specialize in repair / repainting classic plates - but you could probably do it yourself.

what makes one classic and the other one antique?

in PR you can have Antique if it was built 40 yrs ago or more, Classic for 25 yr olds in original condition, Modified Classic for modded 25 yr olds.

I'm planning on getting my Modified Classic plate soon!

 

in PA classic is 15+ years old wheras antique is 25+.. no differentiation between modified and oem in either category..
