FD: RE-A GT Wing

Well, since Chuck and Rotary Extreme are no longer in business, I think we may need another supplier for the RE GT Wing.

Rotary Extreme sold them for around $800 each. I imagine this would be somewhere around there depending on materials and cost.

Never saw them offered in any other sizes.

Although common, I don't understand how they are that expensive.

ilia 03-19-08 01:42 AM

A real race car wing can cost $3000 AND UP.

RacerJason 03-19-08 08:28 AM

A real racecar wing can start at $500 depending on it's application and construction...

Mostly for 3 reasons:
1.) Cost of the carbon fiber
2.) Cost to get the doner for the mold
3.) Enough profit to make the whole process worth while

The wing does not need to be Carbon Fiber but I doubt you could make one out of Fiberglass with all of the force that is going to be put on it. I am sure that you can use a cheaper composit material though for a lower cost option and those of us that dont need "bling"

Maybe if you are fielding a F1 car but not for these wings. For genuine versions in their prime that are actually race tested you can easily find them for under $2k new and that is with the excessive JDM-tyte price jack. This is the same wing that RE uses on their race cars and I tend to think that they have had some success with them.

You do realize that even when it says CF it is usually a CF topsheet applied to FRP.

burtoncr 03-19-08 03:53 PM

For a replica wing that is
a) not wind tunnel test,
b) not proven in a race,
and c) not prepreg carbon (aka what real racecars use)
I wouldn't expect it to cost $800. I understand that APR and the real deal RE Amemiya wings cost $1500, but those are originals and satisfy the conditions above.

For example. When the Subaru S203 STI came out with a unique carbon wing (or S202 for that matter), the real deal wing cost $1200+. Replicas were soon made directly from the real wings and cost in the 3-400 range. The replicas were very similar to the Rotary Extreme replicas in construction (carbon with aluminum stands).

Considering Megan Racing makes a new, large, carbon GT wing and prices it around $400 I think $600 for an RX7 specific one is more appropriate.

Yes but that still doest mean that the CF top sheet does not provide a level of rigidity and have some level of cost to it.

I think $600-$700 final sale price is right in the ballpark for this. Remember we are a small community and there is a good bit of effort and aggrivation to produce these parts. I dont want to drive anyone into the poorhouse & looney bin at the same time because they are producing parts for us.

10 Billion Zillion. It provides downforce to people who want to track their cars. If you dont have anything constructive to add (which apparently you dont based pretty much every post you have on here) then go play with you LS0.7 somewhere else.

I think Megan racing should choke and die on their moms teetons, destroying good companies one at a time.

twomucboost4u 03-19-08 05:38 PM

You mean this one.. this is the Rotary Extreme Wing and I have been looking at wings for a while if you want an adjustable GT spec wing its going to cost around 1000+ if you want some Kregans brand aluminum wing then go spend 300 and look like a retard.

For the track they are great. Thats why you get a spare hatch to swap for track days.

I could see this easily being used for other apps (Supras, 240s, 350Zs, etc). So with a little creativity it doesn't need to be limited to the RX7 community.

Just because RE charged that much doesn't mean it's worth it. Look at your carbon doors. I see more work going into making those doors than the wing. And what was the price on the doors? I just don't see a wing as a hard piece to produce compared to alot of other carbon products. So why should it have a higher price tag?

twomucboost4u 03-19-08 06:25 PM

Price tag on the doors 2200 so i think 1000 for a wing is reasonable...Im a firm believer of you get what you pay for...And Shine had always come through for the community and been fair with there prices so Im sure whatever they decide will be fair.

Chris

su_maverick 03-19-08 08:28 PM

Like I said, The Rotary Extreme ones are going for 800 so something similar is fair. It is up to Ken in the end though. I just want to get it started.

Thanks
