So, I ask, why is this such a big deal? Rotary owners are a tight-nit community, and if you take away the one event that brought us closer together than anything else, then why bother making a big deal that the rotary is unique? It must not be as important as cars like ferrari's or lambo's, who all have their own meets. Honestly, I forsee the future of rotary cars not going much farther than it is today, with gas prices high, talks of low petroleum reserves, and more and more hibrid cars on the market, we are being forced into the corner, eventually pushed out of automotive all together, with the exception of being a footnote in a textbook at wyotech and such. We need to hold on to this, savor every moment that rotary's are here, because as history shows, all good things must come to an end. If we don't do anything to think of rotary vehicles, then nobody will, and they will just get lost in the muck of history, forgotten by all but a sacred few.
Thats was beautiful. All my friends, always ask me Bern if there is gonna be another one. I don't know what to say except, "don't know we'll see", and most reply with is it the money?? "I'll pay for then to have that shit." If it is im sure the Rotary community is willing to suppoet another Seven Stock. Maybe we could pass a petition or something see what kind of numbers we'd get if we asked for support donations. And if its a space issue, im sure if the price was reasonable we could rent out Irwindale, I know Rene always suggests that and that we could even do the whole track thing, my buddy is an EMT so we cold use them help with some $$. I don't know...All I know is that the Rotary Community is willing to do almost whatever it takes to have a gathering like that again. -Ryan |

Thanks for the offer of help and all, but we already have an outstanding group of folks in SO-CAL that volunteer for free! I'm sure if you can make it out though, there will be many guys who would be willing to help you out on the SE!! Thanks again Jays! -Bern |

I think there should be a sevenstock 8 for sure.
The last sevenstock (7) was my first attendence to that large of a car specific gathering ever. I have experience with the Honda and Toyota MR2 owner communities but the RX7 community as a whole impressed me very much. That many cars done up that nicely in one place is something I would attend agian for sure. The layout confused me a bit as maybe a larger, more open, space would be a bit better I think but then agian is no Mazda building. |

How about you require folks who want to go into the inside courtyard, where they can get to see all the goodies Mazda has in there for us, to have purchased a raffle ticket. You get the vendors who are displaying to dontate gifts and offer them as prizes. Folks can buy more than one ticket if they want, perhaps at a reduced price, but they have to buy at least one to get into the inner courtyard.
That way everyone carries some burden - the spectators buy tickets, the vendors give prizes and Mazda helps out with the special vehicles, location, etc. The money generated then covers real costs that need to be payed to pull that size of an event off. Event helpers/staff get to go inside the courtyard for free (maybe they get a free raffle ticket) and before the rest of the folks do. Then your volunteer-help is paid also, in kind. Then to get your crowds you offer discounted bulk tickets to clubs and organized groups to encourage and advertise the event. Also that way, most people have already bought tickets so the burden of having to sell them on the day will be lessened. |
I have been to SevenStock the last three years, and it has been great each year. It's obvious that a lot of work has been put into the event.
I would personally like to thank Berny and the So Cal RX7 club for all of the time that they put in to organize everything, and run the event. From what I am hearing, costs are not the issue. The issue is whether the club wants to put in the time to put on the event. Is that correct? I suggest charging $10 per car to get into the show. The club can look at this event as a fundraiser, and will see a significant benefit from the work that has been put into the show. All that work should provide some financial return for the club. |
One more reason to have one....
Hi.
I have only been to the SS7, and to get there for free we "screwed" my friends ex.girlfrend for some money. We worked on her car for 30 min. and raised about 1800 $. (The dealer wanted 3000 for the repair, so she got a Bargain, only we only put in labour, and no parts). Now; we're at it again. She called the other day, and asked for a daily driver (car). We got a 800$ car lined up, and after about 50$ in parts, and some effort (3-4 hour work) it should pass the EU-test, and be ready for the road. She'll have a bargain again, for the little sum of 2800 $, and our flight and rentalcar costs are covered. So please Bern. Put another on, so we can enjoy the feeling of traveling for other peoples money, knowing it's some ex. who broke up for no reason who is paying for the whole deal. And then it's the added bonus of looking at great cars, enjoying yours and fellow rotorheads company, warm sun (we got almost snow at home), great etc..... And if we have to pay 100$ to get in, it's OK. We'll just sell the car for 3000$ ;-) Looking forward to the SS8 ! |

Just a thought, but you should have the vendors all talk to Mazda USA directly or at least send a letter of reccomendation endorsing the event. Mazda knows (or at least should know) that there is a huge aftermarket for rotary cars, and if they want to help promote their cars, they have to promote the aftermarket, too. Just a thought. Oh, and thank you so much for trying to help save this event for us! I just think that it's been neglected in this whole thread how much work you're putting forward to save sevenstock. |

We have been able to fund each subsequent SS from the previous years SS fundraisers (read raffle tickets)... so we are good there. now we just need to get all you boys & girls to buy lots of RAFFLE tickets... if we get SS-8 together.
