Yes there will be a slight gap there, but it gets closed up when you bolt the cluster into the housing. The lens squeezes against the gauges and helps hold them in place as well/.

That is correct, I removed all the rings on the gauges. This let's you thread the gauge itself into the housing. Then the plastic gauge cover bolts down and additionally holds it in place.

I went with programmable alarms on all of mine...
