Where to get tuned near jacksonville?

Looking for a trusted rotary tuner with tons of experience. WIlling to pay top dollar and drive out of town.

Main Performance parts include:

stock port s5 13b-t, BNR 3, ID injectors, *HAltech E6x* and it will be on e85 only.

The tune needs to be great. It will be used in auto cross and short to med tracks so the engine will see a lot of load in low rpms. Needs experience=)

Point me in the right direction.

I'd check with Kilo in Orlando. Not certain if that is too far.

junito1 06-06-11 07:21 PM

Nope not to far. I already had some idea that i might end up taking to to someone in O-town

rxse7en 06-06-11 07:39 PM

How about Tracy at Speedfab?

evot23 06-06-11 07:48 PM

i tried to get Tracy to look at my tranny a while back. No return email, no return pm, no call back. I know lots of guys swear by him, even some of my old friends in jax, but he really put me off with the noncommunication. I would have thought another piston 7 owner would be better but I guess he's good enough that he doesn't need the work.

rxse7en 06-06-11 09:15 PM

Eddie, I've actually heard that. But on the flip side he and Tony also come highly recommended. I'll be bringing the FC to them when it's ready and I'll let you know how it goes. There's also a dyno down near Mayport on Atlantic but I haven't heard anything about them.

junito1 06-06-11 10:17 PM

Keep them coming. Reviews are welcome.

@rxse7en How many rotaries have you seen tuned by tracy? Have any links to his work?

evot23 06-07-11 05:51 AM

reviews on the Stage 6 guys..?

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I've seen lots of their work and its great. That's why I tried to go to them first for my tranny...not getting any return message, ever, puts me off though. So my business went elsewhere and all is good.:icon_tup:

FYI, there is only one e85 place in town that I know of. This could be quite an inconvenience to deal with. Might a suggest 2 separate tunes you can switch between, one for E85 and one for petrol? it would make your life ALOT easier.

Sephitrask 06-07-11 08:16 AM

oh, and Kilo in Orlando does fantastic work. I have seen David Hayes car, and it is lovely, and he also re tuned an 8 that I was working on, and it was night and day with the before and after.

papsmagu 06-07-11 01:08 PM

This is what Kilo can do with E85 and microtech

not sure if he tunes haltech but i am sure someone here can answer that or you can call them and ask them.

If you guys read my original post. It clearly says, "Looking for a trusted rotary tuner with tons of experience"

CLEARLY no jacksonville shops has what im asking for. SO the only legit suggestions so far is KILO racing. All other suggestions are not even close.

Just to clarify.. I am willing to go out of town..

"near jacksonville" does not mean in jacksonville. Within a 6 hour drive of jacksonville.

junito1 06-08-11 02:24 PM

BEsides speedfab had a yellow fd right? They bailed, or should i say failed, on their rotary engine and went v8 turbo.. This is what i am not looking for.

Stage 6 is known for not being rotary friendly. Yeah they install parts and what not. But build and tune a rotary with good results? I dont even know of a single rotary powered car out of stage 6 with great results. Generally you would see more fast rx7s in town if we had a good rotary shop.

I wish I had the finances and knowledge to open up a shop that specialized in rotaries. The market is just so damn scary though...

sharingan 19 06-09-11 01:11 AM

I'll help! If we could capture this mythical "Norm" creature I here so much about I'm sure we could corner the market for rotary performance in this town. Lol

FC3S_nataku 06-09-11 03:00 PM

norm is already part of a shop here in jacksonville with red fd josh. its called trinity rotary

Why not pay Steve Kan to come to JAX, or see if he's going to Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, or West Palm.

He tuned my FD for autox, and the powerband is VERY linear, and daily-driveability is stock-like.

I'm in JAX, and you go for a ride . . .

does kilo have experience with r-tek? I would just like a tune that does have a mid RPM hiccup.

junito1 06-10-11 03:26 PM

I would assume towing the car to KILO's shop and paying for a tune is cheaper then flying steve kan in for 1 single tune.

BUt KILO and Steve Kan are the only good suggestions. I figured enzo racing has had some good results or crispeed but they are no better than Kilo but quite a bit further. near miami or in miami.

sharingan 19 06-11-11 02:03 AM

Its really not that hard to tune an rtek, no reason to pay a shop. The hardest (most time consuming) part of a tune is the daily driver portion, and the rtek had already done that for you.

I wonder if anyone near Jacksonville has experience tuning a Megasquirt ECU. I just don't have the time or patience after building and installing it.

:dunno:
