Steve Kan tuning in Greenville SC

well boys, its that time again. looking to see about interest in people having their cars tuned. im looking to have this sometime in late august early sept. steve requires a min. of 5 deposits to lock in a date and buy a plane ticket. deposits are $200. here is a breakdown of the tuning costs from his website.

Tuning costs:

$350 - Stock Turbo up to 12psi of boost (pump gas only) 1 map
$400 - Aftermarket Turbo up to 16psi of boost (pump gas only) 1 map
$450 - Aftermarket Turbo from 16psi - 25psi of boost (race gas and/or auxiliary injection only) 1 map
$600 - Aftermarket Turbo up to 25psi of boost (pump gas and race gas tune) 2 maps

for more info go to www.kantuning.com

dyno costs im not sure on yet as im waiting to hear back from two shops as to which has the better price. either one will be on a load bearing (eddie current) dyno to ensure a great tune. steve prefers mustang dyno's, but unfortunately the closest one is ATL.

so lets start the list. post up if you are honestly interested in doing this, then we can pick a date and collect deposits. also, put a brief description of your car like myself.

1. dregg100-'93 haltech plat, BW S475, large SP 2 maps
2. 20b10ae-'88 haltech e6k, holset h1e, stock port
3.
4.

if you have any questions post up or send me a pm and i can get you taken care of. i have organized these before, so know what all goes into it.

thanks guys!

Date set: Nov. 21 - Nov. 22

No different prices for NA cars?

Eat-Pez 07-27-09 11:37 PM

Amazon Racing in Anderson has a Mustang Dyno. Good group of guys there. Owner knows his shit too. They mostly do Fords, but would possibly rent their dyno for a day. I've used them twice.

Interesting story about one time I was there

that would a question to ask steve, ill direct him to this thread to answer it.

thanks greg for that, found their website a few days ago. if this shop in mauldin doesnt work out then ill talk to them. anderson is just a bit far, but we shall see.

Are you talking about the place beside NAPA in Mauldin? They're good guys too. I've never used them for work or anything, but I've talked with them a few time and they've given me used parts that I couldn't find elsewhere (without buying a whole kit or something, like an oil pump pickup tube... can't get those without buying the whole pump assembly). Nice guys.

are you running standalone or piggyback?

Yo. Yeah, just getting ready to put the Megasquirt on the track car, and I'm trying to decide whether to do it before or after the September track day.

dregg100 07-29-09 07:56 PM

what kind of na setup are you running?

Stock port engine, cleaned up intake, RB street exhaust

Can't do much more than that without bumping the car into a different rule-set for time trials.

pluto 07-30-09 12:21 AM

sorry, all standalone will be the same so your price is $350 for the tune

alright guys small update.

talked to the shop a new shop today as the others flaked. their normal rate for the day is $600, which really isnt that bad. but the owner wasnt there, so he is supposed to talk to him and call me back tomorrow to finalize price. since we will be doing it for two days they may be able to work something more of a flat rate per car type deal.

what do you guys think for a date? im looking at the weekend of sept 26-27.

sk8world 08-19-09 10:55 AM

looks like i'm going to have to start learning tuning. i could charge $100/person and still make way more than what i do now with way less stress.

Elombard 08-20-09 12:41 PM

Has anybody ever checked with I think his screen name is AARGHX? He has got to be able to tune....he is a frigging genius. And he lives in Raleigh.

dregg100 08-20-09 01:02 PM

are you kidding me man? just because you know alot doesnt mean that you can get a car to run near factory. i can tune, but not nearly as well as steve.

rxtasy3 08-20-09 06:31 PM

i think u misunderstood what i was getting at. i was talking about the amount of money that can be made at tuning and that i would have to learn to do it.

dregg100 08-20-09 11:42 PM

nah mike, i was talking to the tard above me "elombard"

rxtasy3 08-21-09 10:02 AM

oh, my bad. somehow i missed seeing his post altogether.

Johny zoom 08-21-09 11:20 AM

lets do this

Elombard 08-22-09 10:48 AM

Hmm I disagree, if you understand the systems on the Fd well and you understand the relationships between the AFR, EGTs, timing, injector duty etc. you should be able to produce an excellent safe tune. I agree some one with no rotary knowledge and lots of piston knowledge would be a bad idea but he is extremely experienced on rotaries.

Any way, I cant afford a Kan tune but I think when I get all set up I am going to no boost drive to Raleigh and let him help me with it. Should learn a lot and be a bit less expensive.

Any way I was just throwing some ideas out if there was not enough interest in a "Kan" session.

Sorry I "tarded" up your thread.

dregg100 08-22-09 01:44 PM

key word you used, "safe." my tune is safe. but its not at the limit of safe which is where steve will take it. not to be a dick, but if you cant afford a few hundred dollars for a proper tune, then you should not own an FD.
