Ok, wrong place I know, but you guys are actually intelligent. Stupid piston engines.

Did my first oil change today, 1200 miles on the motor. Looked in the drain pan, saw this. I know to expect some metal in there, but these pieces seem fairly large.

Thoughts?

Great. Is there anything else I should bring? I will try to clean engine bay.

Chris, you've got a Sterling Nikki? Damn, there's OGTA's that would kill for one of those. Mike Simonovich is our resident expert on Nikki vacuum lines, he even understands why they suck.

Greg the essential parts for the 2GDFI are a 2nd gen coil pack and a bolt to attach it to the strut tower. I've got the wire and terminals you'll need and a pair of pliers to do the wiring.

We should be able to wing the rest but you'll need to do the handling, I've got my white work shirt on.

Not sure what you are trying to keep. But, the basics are this:

2nd nipple from the front on the phenolic spacer use for the vacuum advance. You can put a tee in the line to go to both vacuum advance diaphrams.

3rd nipple from the front on the phenolic spacer use for the vacuum from the oil filler tube. There are pages of opinions about the need for a PCV valve. I put one in, but this is up to you.

Block everything else off, EXCEPT the bowl vent. Ask me how I know.

Gene is the real expert on vacuum lines. If you make it out to the meet, we can get him to take a look at it. He keeps finding my mistakes. Heck he might even correct something on my vacuum lines tonight. He did it at the last 2 meets.

Oh, I almost forgot. The price for this sage advice is one Sterling Nikki. You can give it to me at the meet tonight. Ray can tell you I have been lusting after one of those for loooonnnng time.

2) Does anyone know how to or do you recommend installing 2nd gen coil pack (direct fire)?

Thanks, i would appreciate any input.

p.s. Hey Ray, it was nice meeting you and thanks for the DP.
Your sticking tach is likely a function of old age. There's a damper on the coil that actually moves the needle and keeps the needle from constantly bouncing as your RPM fluctuates from one moment to the next. Over time, it dries up and gets sticky when cold. If you turn your running lights on early in the morning before going out to start the car, it will likely warm the tach up enough to work. If so, that's your problem. I've got it on the GSL-SE too. I've never tried to fix it, but have rather either lived with it or just swapped out to another tach.

Unhappy

The Sterling Nikki was a typo. I was making a list of parts to lookup and copied and pasted the wrong thing. Mine is NOT a sterling....That is what I wanted. I guess I am now in debt.

I HOPE to have one sometime in my life.........wishful thinking

I think I figured out the hoses. Can't make it tonight though. I hope to see you all at the Mitty!

Pictures are coming though when I can get my wonderful photographer girlfriend to take time to fit me in for a few pics when she is done with her clients

Congrats Chris!

That reminds me, on my way to the meeting last night I spotted a really nice gold FB cruising north on I85 in the left lane, looked like he was headed for the I985 merge. Bright shiny paint, pretty polished chrome tail pipe. Anybody know who it is?

Here's some photos of the April 5, 2011 OGTA meeting.

Rotaries were still showing up when I had to leave around sundown so Kristy and Holly will post the total 12A equivalents later on.

It was a sunny but coolish evening, in the mid '50's

I like Holly's RX-9 but don't you think she'd look great in a white FB?

Billys FE is looking more like an FF every meet:

Here's Crit's SE, probably the second best running rotary on the lot after the Silver One

I couldn't believe it. This Starlett showed up with a 12A in it

Even though it has a V8 in it we gave it 3 12A equivalents, based on dignity alone. Last summer Gene gave me a ride in that thing, scared me to death

Ray, it's not an FC contraption. It is the overflow bottle from and SE. It allows the overflow bottle to fit under the CAI ducting. I know it did come from a car with 13B, but it is a period correct piece. So be kind to me.

Thats right. Next thing you know Mike will have an FC

Or maybe even a 13B or Del Horto under the hood

Its a new trend called RestoModding. Its where older cars are restored
but using more modern parts (FC?) to get better performance or reliability.
You should look into it Ray

Well you already have one foot over the edge. You may as well just jump in full monty.

Fun trip home. LOTS of troopers sitting on the roads in Ga.

Ray- The latest mod that I showed you when I was leaving came in very handy. As iI crossed the NC/SC border my Down pipe decided to part ways from my turbo. This made the car really loud as opposed to just "yeah it's kinda loud" This did make my car sound like a Semi truck. The slightest touch of the gas and the turbo spool sound was intoxicating. ( not to mention the carbon monoxide, hah!)

Oh you guys should not have gone there. I am having lunch with Ray tomorrow. He is going to preach a sermon on the virtures of the un-molested 12A, complete with an alter call, and I'll have to genuflect in front of The Silver One.

Dave, glad to hear you made it home safely, with a minimum of adventure.

I don't know what this song is, but you can queue the music. I'm betting our spiritual leader and The Silver One will be on the track for the record setting parade lap.
