Thanks guys. Thanks for the turn-out. I really enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing all the cars. A special thanks to the out-of-towners. Obviously it took more effort for those guys to make it. Maybe when the next one comes around, we could try to get some sponsors and maybe get a tuner (Steve Kan, BDC, etc...) to come out, if there is enough interest or need for one.

daaaammmnnnnnn, i'm so mad i missed out. something happened with my starter and we couldn't finish getting it up and running. but, the engine is now installed and ready to rock out... if only i coulda got the engine shipped to me a few days earlier i coulda made it.

WOOOZLE!

robs_seven 03-19-06 06:20 AM

Well i was really pleased with all the turn out. we had a great variety. there were some beautiful 3rd and 2nd gens and some okay 3rd and 2nd gens. there were 3-4 1st gens, and one rx-8. we had i think 23 rotors and 1 lt1. Everyone was pretty cool but i think that area is to crowded and we need some where not so crowed so next time we can not worry about getting ran off and not worry about trying to find some where to eat with every one. i know there were some guys from asheville and raleigh and greensboro and i saw i think one with a Virgina tag and one with a tennessee tag. maybe we should have a meet more centrally located for the out of towners.

i think we should do this once a month so guys dont get burned out and so it does not mess up RRDI schedule of meets. Maybe next time we could have it more up in Statesville. Statesville is right were I40 and I77 meet and it may attract some other guys, being its pretty much center between SC and VA and also greensboro and asheville. Statesville is not that busy and there are places that never get full and im sure i could set up a parking lot to use that is personally owned and we could set up reservations were everyone could eat together. let me know what you guys think of that, i could call around and set somthing up next month if eveeryone is cool with that. if not thats fine too

thanks to all the guys that came out and had a great time and met some great people.( i was the one in the blueish paint and primer 1st gen)

Thanks for organizing this event Joe. There was an excellent turn out. Wish we could have made the dinner afterwards but we had other plans for the evening. I'll definitely try to make any future events that you arrange.

Thanks again !

First Ever 4 State Gathering of The Rotarian Brotherhood

All the guys from Raleigh made it home safe and thoroughy enjoyed the rotary fellowship. Beautiful cars and a great group of guys. Want to say I appreciate the ladies coming along. Keeps us the guys from scratching, cussing too much and picking our noses. A much more civilize gathering. Here are the photos I brought home:

First a little story. On our way from Raleigh on Hwy 64West Doug and I passed Wayne's Alignment shop and we noticed a bunch of well maintained Triumph Sportscars parked in the parking lot and one of the garage bay doors open. Interesting! So we take the first turn to get on 64East and do a little back tracking. We pull in with our Japanese Rotary cars and find out the Triumph Club of the Carolinas is having a workshop day at the shop of one of their members. There are about 10 old, I mean 25+ year old cars there with a TR 250 up on the lift getting some suspension work checked and tightened. Here are the pics:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...riumphshop.jpg

Here is a beautiful early Triumph 4:

and here is a nice TR6:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ets/6x4TR6.jpg

And here is a 40+ year old Spitfire and we think first gens are old:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../6x4TRSpit.jpg

Here is the shop owner, Wayne's TR250 undergoing some winter restoration work in prep for this year's car shows:

Finally, a bunch of car lovers standing around looking at a car. I call this one Quality Assurance. Work has to be done right.

These guys were kind enough to ask to come out and see a couple of rotary powered sports cars. They were very appreciative of our cars and pretty knowledgeable of rotary power. Every road trip we take there is always a little surprise and some added reward for taking your car out for a little excercise. It was great meeting these guys and they were as enthusiastic about our cars as we were with their beautiful antiques.

Now for the Pics from Charlotte

Now here are the pics I got yesterday:
The rotarian gathering begins:

Ever notice that whenever you expose your Wankel all the guys have to look?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ts/6x4CRR1.jpg

Here is another early group shot while we were still in the North Lake parking lot:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ts/6x4CRR3.jpg

The first gens were present:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/6X4CRR10.jpg

and it seems that the FDs are coming out of their winter maintenance cycle well rested and looking awesome. They attracted a big crowd all afternoon:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ts/6X4CRR6.jpg

Here is a slightly moded FD, sounded strange to me for a rotary engine. Oh yeah it was drastically bridge ported?:0)

The Best for Last

Yes, I know everyone feels teased, Where are the FCs you ask. OK, the best I saved for last. Of course the FCs were there yesterday and proudly represented their generation:
The FCs were the first to show:

This is Tiffany for those that got to look under her hood yesterday but didn't get a proper introduction. She came down from Danville, Virginia and brought her owner Johny with her:

Here is Smoken's Turbo beauty:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/6X4CRR17.jpg

We had couple of beautiful verts that made it out and they both came topless:
Keith's red S5:

I met the proud owner of this S4 vert but don't remember his name but he definitely has a beautiful car:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/6X4CRR15.jpg

and finally to round out the FCs here is my 89 GTU, she enjoyed her excercise yesterday and is up for more road trips this year:

Finally, one last parting shot from our backup parking area:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/6X4CRR20.jpg

That is the best of my pics. Great to meet everyone and see all the rotaries. Everone meet up at Fontana Village in a month and renew the rotarian fellowship and meet some new owner from all over the eastern US.

Great Time!

Had a great time in Charlotte, and it was a treat to see some pretty awesome cars. You guys have a great group, and look forward to meeting again.

For those of you who wanted the link to the Rotary Engine Keychain, here it is. Best dang 8 bucks I've spent in a long time.

'85GSL-SE 03-19-06 06:09 PM

Same here! I had a great time! Meeting new people and finding out a whole new different side of conversions in all forms.

It was fun to see some of the rice boys try and do burnouts in front of the cars and look like a bunch af wankers. The sound that came from the mustang just baffled me to no end.

I enjoyed seeing the Montego Blue FD's the most and the one that had the body kit on it to me was just stunning. I envied the Single Turbo guys, but the guy with the LT1..... :uhh: not my cup of tea... ;) :beerchug: rofl Trey just joking. Let me just say the RX-7 with the LT1 was torque heaven. I have never seen an RX-7 with just 285 HP just jump from the tap of the gas peddle while cruising, simply just crazy.

Over all I had a great time.

With the meet my new found knowledge of a simplified 5 speed swap was priceless. :) We have got to have another one. The wealth of knowledge I gained from these meets are a must for RX-7 guys.

I feel for Johny Zoom from Virginia. I live just 30 minutes South of Danville Virginia. What a drive it was.

I had a great time hope to get together again on the next meet!

Take care all,
Daniel - $2500FD
