haha, yes jl1rx7 this is true. But the FD requires a little more than the rest. my '78 RX-7 = smooth sailing in the cash department but the '93 RX-7 = Turbulant waters.

So true. I love my cars more than my (now ex) girlfriend. Hmm, could this be why I am single?  :banghead: Must research this possiblity.

Enjoyed seeing all of the good-looking RX-7s at Big Daddys on Saturday. I've had my 79 in storage for the last 8 years, so I didn't drive it. Hope to buy an FD in the next month. Many thanks to the pretty lady who made me feel at home!

'85GSL-SE 08-31-05 05:29 PM

Oh no, my FD has developed a heavy gas smell in the cockpit when I drive it and especially after the car is shut off the cabin is just flooded full of the gas smell. I opened the hood I could not smell anything, I checked underneath the car and could not smell anything but it sure was potent in the cabin. It was like it was ambient just comming from everywhere. I checked the Gas cap and there was not really a potent smell. I have heard that your car can catch fire like this. I havn't a clue where it is comming from. I have heard the pulsation damper could be leaking but I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Any help please. Do I need to take it to the dealership or can I get a rotary expert to help me out. Please I beg you I don't want a carbieque.:(

Mine smells like gas too from time to time. Call mazda and chek for recalls becouse it had one for the gas line becouse with the temps it could not hold up.

Who Farted? :rlaugh:

I don't know why I said that. It just seeamed like the right thing to do at the time!

rotarycrazy 09-01-05 04:01 PM

I did. With the gas price like this we will have to run on fart enegy conserve the enviroment like that I think. My mother sead she seen prices as high as 8 bucks per gallon in atlanta

'85GSL-SE 09-01-05 07:19 PM

I filled up my FD after picking up my new headlight covers. It costed me $80.32 :crzyeye:
I parked it and pulled my '78 RX-7 out of the Garage, put a tag on her with insurance and filled her tank for $24 dollars and that is my daily driver. My Dad drives a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited I let him drive my '85 RX-7. 25 MPG on the 12A isn't bad compaired to 12->18 on the Jeep and FD.

Thank God Mazda made the SA and FB's with Good gas mileage.:)

the price right down the road from me is $3.90 a gallon.

That might actually be viable. Hmm . . . I'll have to break out the white lab coats and get working on a way to convert farts to usable energy. But I'll have to be careful. If I let too many farts escape, it may cause further damage to the ozone. :rlaugh:

Wow. I honestly think that this is the only legitimate reason for gas prices to go up! the main pipelines that run from texas to the Carolinas have been damaged, causing an actual shortage. Unlike all the other "reasons" before the hurricane, this I think may be legit! But it still hurts.

$8 a gallon and $80 is still a lot though. I get to drive 60 miles a day on my way to work. Then i have to come home. Good thing my MX-6 gets about35 mpg - Which translates to about $100 a week! My '79 SA only gets about 18mpg!!! I don't wanna think about what that would cost!

Anyway, i'm signing off for the night. Have a good one.

I didnt realyze that your 79 was getting such a crappy gas mileage I think with myne I am getting like 28 on the highway and thats doing 80/90 most of the time.

Same here, Mine only has a 14.5 Gallon tank and it lasts me a week even if I kick it a few times. My '85 gets a little bit worse gas milage but not as bad as my FD with the fuel leak.

You might want to check your carb and see if it needs a rebuild. I know when I did the rebuild on my '78's it drastically improved her fuel economy.

Just a few thoughts. If you guys have another RX-7 Meet I bet you it will be nothing but SA's and FB's...lol

they way gas prices are going it might be a bunch of us with 12 speed bikes standing around talking about how fast are 7s were when we could afford to put gas in them!

Yeah, I think I'll start with the tune up that I've been meaning to do (plugs, wires, etc). If it is the carb, then when I have it rebuilt it would probably give me power that I am apparently lacking, as well as mileage. I never said anything about the gas mileage at the meet because I just assumed that was normal mileage.

I pray it never gets that drastic! However, a guy I work with that sits in the cubicle next to me rides his bike to work on somedays! (For those of you that don't know, I work in Spartanburg at QS/1 Data Systems) He comes to Spartanburg from Boiling Springs - it takes him 1 hr!!! Good thing for us QS/1 put showers in when we had this building built! :rlaugh:
