Long time no see Rotorheads! Well my Audi is one month away from being paid off and my two year stint living in Japan is done. So now it's time to finally get my precious FD running again. The motor will need a rebuild and I was thinking of having my turbos remanned by bnrsupercars. She's mostly stock but I want to build it pretty close to right with a new intercooler, radiator, intake hosing, filters, ast, motor mounts etc etc.

So my question to you all is. Judging by the fact I'm in Atlanta... where would be the best place to take the car to start having this process done? IRPerformance looked pretty promising on their website but seeing as their in NJ might be a trip. Anyone a little closer you all recommend?

Charlie at Mazcare does great work and his staff does really great work as well, its just north of Atl in Marietta. They did work on my FD and when it needs more work ill ship it back to them from Savannah GA.

If you're in need of a motor rebuild I would highly suggest you let Rick Enman(If you haven't heard of him, google him online) from Mazmart do the motor work, give Paul at Mazmart a call & he can set you up. From mild to wild & 2-4 rotor engines Rick can build anything you want. Heads up though he only does engine work not installations unless things have changed.

I've heard good things from Mazcare as well but they're a bit pricey, also heard(not sure about this can somebody confirm this?) that their head rotary mechanic left them to start his own shop or something a few years back.

If you find a shop that does rotary engine installations at a fair price let me know as well. i'm also looking to get my FD on the road this coming year too.

Hey mazdaspeedDan what kind of work did Mazcare perform on your car?

what kind of rebuild do u need? coolant seal? apex seals? also, rebuild for stock turbos or are you looking for a BNR stage 3 upgrages? Sequential or Parallel setup?

Basically I shipped them my FD and said I have no idea what is wrong with it, its stalling out at 4k please help I have troubleshot it to the best of my abilities now I need a professional to look over it. The FD was at their shop for about 2 months and I told them to take there time as I didnt need the car for transportation.

They kept good lines of communication and if they had a breakthru they would call me immediately.

Pretty much turned out I had 1300cc secondarys with a stock ecu... so he keep weeding things out until he hooked a pfc up to it and was set for 1300cc's and ran great. so he diagnosed that problem.


Hes now my Mazda go to guy. Also he paid the 200$ towing bill for the FD to get there. Yeah I ended up paying it on the backend but that says alot for a shop to pay 200$ to take a car in.

Also while my car was there he did some work on it like right turn signal and a few other tweaks like dialing the tps in and such. I think he charged a fair price considering I gave him a car and had no idea what was wrong with it.

I actually used to take my FD to Charlie at Mazcare all the time. Mostly for smaller things like oil changes and to get marine coupling hoses. They've done some other work also. but this is back when Vince was still there. I will say Charlie was always friendly and great but I do agree that I always thought Mazcare was a little pricey relative to other prices I had seen. I guess I can check with them about doing the whole assembly but possibly sourcing the actual rebuild somewhere else.

The rebuild I will need I believe was a lower coolant seal in the second rotor housing. I'd like to move up to 3mm seals or a really strong set of titanium or ceramic seals. The only problem is the car has been basically sitting for several years. So there's going to be alot of misc problems because of that. I want to rebuild to a mild street port with a potential stage 3 upgrade but I'm not looking to make large amounts of horse power. And as complicated as it is I'd like to stay with the sequential setup. So reliability and durability is pretty much on top of the list. Along with powder coating the housing and making everything look mint is pretty prim o.

Welcome back to the forum, I second Mazmart, if you can get them to build your engine that would be the way to go.

Mazcare had been doing all the maintenance and mod work on my '95 FD since the original warranty ran out, everything from oil changes to an engine replacement.

Okay so.... I'm going to give Mazcare a call tomorrow and see if they'll handle the general dis-assembly and reconstruction of the car. Then I'll give Mazmart a call and see if they can handle doing the rebuild of the engine itself. I'm a little worried about the fact the car has sat for so long what will need to be replaced/repaired. But I guess it will just be an endless vomit of cash to get it back on the road.
