Hey guys,
I know i haven't posted in a while, but i have been keeping up with this thread to see how everything's going with your projects and life
.
I have also been somewhat busy, i recently got fired from my job and have been doing some side work here and there and i've tried to accomplish some projects that I had put off because of the 60+ hrs/week i was working.
Anyways, reason for posting is my wife's family and her church group does an annual camping trip to a place called Elk Shoals it's in West Jefferson right on the river. I'm trying to see who would be interested in having a Meet at this place (don't worry it won't be with the church group as they've had their camping trip already
). I've tried to contact the "owners" to see what days it's available, any possible charges (highly doubted unless you plan on camping there), and mainly if they would be "ok" having several cars in and out as long as we act "responsible" (although it's pretty hard not to since you'll end up in the river if you lose any control of the car lol).
the place has a beautiful "beach" where it's easy to go in the river, in case you would like to fish, or tube down the river, or just plain get a little wet. There is plenty of parking space, and 2 BIG picnic areas which will be awesome to grill out. here's the website to the place in case you want to check it out: http://elkshoals.yolasite.com/
As far as the trip goes, i think it'll be a good "mountain run" for us to enjoy our cars. We'll be going up HWY 16 towards West Jefferson which is full of nice twists and turns and the road to get to Elk Shoals is EXTREMELY curvy. My plan was to go up to the place grill out, swim, fish, chill and talk crap. then head back down 16, get on the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way towards HWY 18 (were we had the last Mountain run we did) and come down 18, that should make it a whole day just about...... anyone interested?
i'll keep trying to contact the place to see if there'll be any charge for using the place and not camping out. and to see what days it'll be available...let me know.

still haven't been able to get a hold of anybody, my mother in law said there shouldn't be any charge but we may have to register as visitors i'm trying to get on that. but in the mean time here's a planned route so you have an idea of the kind of drive it'll be (this is from MY house in Ronda NC, also if you press the 3D option under driving directions on left hand side it'll give you an animated run through of the road): https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=1...2.749,74.973,0
Sorry about that, let me know if this works any better: https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=1...,74.973,0&z=12
Finally got a hold of somebody at Elk Shoals and this is what they said:
"Thanks for the kind words....and glad you enjoyed your time at Elk Shoals!
The beach area is "free" to the public, and beach access is limited to
the area before the GREEN Gate. The best bet for your group would be
to make a reservation to rent a picnic shelter (40.00 for the day, and
then you would be able to have a place to grill, access to the
bathroom/shower house and a secure place to park at the shelter, and
access to the beach, and the whole riverfront for fishing/tubing).
Sometimes it gets way too crowded to park at the beach.
If you want to make reservations, just email me the requested date(s) and
your complete postal mail address.
thanks, peggy"
The beach area is big enough to park a few cars, but there's no benches or tables or a place to grill, and its first come first serve. So if we get enough people we can all pitch in to renting a picnic shelter which is BIG and there's TONS of parking and as mentioned above some commodities. At $40.00 if we can get 8 people interested in going that's $5 dollars a head, or we could just chill at the beach.
There is a home style restaurant right before you get to this that is really good, but don't know if it'll be open on Sundays. Let me know who's interested and we'll get this going, with a date that would work for all of you. i guess i'll need at least a week notice to be able to get our pass ticket or something.

i had posted this as an idea for a meet..but nobody seemed interested.
Sorry that I haven't posted in a while. I've been working my **** off. I have put my shift change in for first shift. I should know something in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait to get back on first and have a life again.
Hey guys. I've been in what it seems the same situation as Sam. Been working everyday so I haven't had much time for anything. Edgar I'm liking your idea for a meet. Would be a nice change to go somewhere other than BK. we're soon to have a new member to the group and an old member is returning from a long hiatus. The new guys name is will and he's the one that bought my gold car from me. The returning member is my old vert. Getting parts together this week and hopefully if all goes well and I get a day off I'm starting on her soon. I miss driving that over weight rotary powered turd lol.
Buff that thang up Josh and you've got a nice SA. Sweet!
Buddy down the street is still trying to sell is vert. Its a pretty nice car, check it out.
