Do YOU have uninsured motorists coverage? (56k take your time)

Tuesday, April 10th my 88T2 suffered a blown ECU fuse on the way to work at 6:15am est.

This is what it looked like that morning, though I had a set of spray painted gold T2 wheels on it instead.

At 6:35am my ride comes to take me to work after I park my T2 on the side of I-81, mile marker 2 in eastern TN, near White Pine. I was nearly hit by a minimum of TWO truckers who crossed the white line. I presumable left my DD 2-3ft on the other side of the white line, on the other side of a set of rumble strips.

8:38am I get a call from my grandmother stating my vehicle was tagged by the Tennessee Highway Patrol for removal from the roadway (Sticker says 7:53am)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...I/DSC00284.jpg

At around 11am forum member RoughRex drives by my car.
around the same time I call my mother to come get my keys to pick up my car from the side of the road.

I recieve a phone call from one of my friends returning home to white pine at 1:30pm asking me if my car was on the side of the road, I told him yes, and he asks me if i need any help with parts....I tell him no that its nothing but a blown fuse.

2pm my mother and grandfather phone my grandmother to phone me to tell me my car was hit on the side of the road. The SAME THP officer to put the sticker on the car came out to write up the report as well. They nearly get creamed by a car hauler as he too crosses the white line. Go TN Move Over law....

I come home at around 5pm to this (might wanna get a tissue):

The damage above was caused, according to my own assertations, as well as my grandfather (a truck driver of more years than ive lived), that a tractor trailer hit my vehicle with the very last trailer tire as the driver awoke to the sound of his tires on the rumble strip and seeing the lil red car coming up fast next to his cab.

There was nothing of my mirror near the car save a couple small pieces of mirror glass.

My accident is a Hit and Run by a commercial driver...whom would have lost his privelege to work and drive had he STOPPED and reported the accident himself when it happened. As he did not this falls under the "No fault" law in the state of TN. However my liability only insurance coverage did not include "Uninsured Motorists" which would have been the case here.

So before you take your rotary to the next DGRR, or get it cranked up after a few years sitting, take the time and get yoru insurance coverage settled right...

For me...I have to inspect the suspension still, but Im now in the market for a used 87-88 T2 rolling shell, minus motor/tranny.

wow thats fucked up...i hate trucks especially when they dont pay attention to where there going

sorry to hear about this....

banzaitoyota 04-12-07 06:59 PM

This is a reason why you have a triple A card or pony up for a tow truck. Sure makes that $90/year for AAA Plus seem like chump change.

Well, considering im only 22, and at the time i got insurance i was 18, AAA would not carry me. And a tow truck would have been about 100 minumum, 20+mile trip from where it was parked to the house again and work was more important. We've not been putting in full weeks so I needed hours more than time off.

RoughRex 04-12-07 09:29 PM

So, I'm guessing the insurance company says that uninsured motorist is not required by TN law?

gravytraindg 04-12-07 09:33 PM

bummer......don't give up on it, i bet you could hammer out the wheelwell and install a new quarter panel. if you know what your doing nobody could ever tell, plus you would still have a clean title.

Kinda...Uninsured apparently isnt apart of Direct's Liability policies or i turned it down when i renewed....though im thinking im gonna drop the policy once my NA is sold this weekend and i limp the t2 back onto concrete... That panel may be fixable, however the underbody damage has yet to be seen.

LizardFC 04-12-07 10:07 PM

Wow, your taillight survived. That amazes me. I dunno, I'd have to see it in person but it looks fixable if the body itself is still straight. It would be one hell of an undertaking though, something for a really good body tech.

Those pictures make me wanna toss my waffles man.

FirstRotaryExp 04-12-07 10:12 PM

I dunno liz... the body line...no long exists, its creased on the line in a few spots, sure it could be done, with like 100+hours of massaging >.>

LizardFC 04-12-07 10:26 PM

Yeah, the body lines would have to be redone. Major sculpture... where's Michaelangelo?

If it was my car, I'd try to fix it myself just to see if I could.

Hellbent1stN2ndownr 04-13-07 09:20 AM

Holy fucking shit... if my digital cam wasnt dead, I would throw my 85 pics on here from the other day.
-puke-

*sigh* Im 23, I have AAA...
It has saved my nuts ton of times..
but thats beyond the point..

-lights up one for the 7s- :pity: :uh: :bluesuit: <- is fucking scary

I have the Gold membership (or whatever the good one is). I got two "broken down" 7's towed, at the same time, about 60 miles for $20 (tip to the driver).

banzaitoyota 04-13-07 03:00 PM

not to bust on you when you are down, but maybe someone will take this to heart. You had enough money for 18" rims but you scrimp on insurance, a back up plan (AAA) or having enough money sent aside for emergencies such as this. Perhaps you need to get something less expensive until you can care for it properly.

The 18's were on teh car when i bought it, since sold thats why its back on stock. And ive been caring for it properly, I had someone on the way to get it towed back home at 11am, and would have been going back through the harness to fix the short.

I currently dont have the money to fix this, IRS is wanting a nice healthy chunk of money, the equivalent of buying my NA again...

Look in the events section of the forum. Looks like we will have over 100 cars there this year. It's next weekend April 20-22.

quick note - this is covered by your collision insurance (if you had it), not uninsured motorist. it is definitely not covered by liability. if you have any collision ins on the car then it should be covered, and your insurance company is screwing with you.

RoughRex 04-13-07 10:43 PM

kinda... Collision would cover it (if you had it) in any collission. However, uninsured motorist will cover it in the event you have no collision insurance and you can prove that the damage was caused by another driver (or any MOVING road obstacle for that matter) that either has no insurance, does not have enough insurance, or in hit and run instances.

I did a quick google and found this texas government site:
