Any secrets for passing Atlanta emmissions?

Alright, trying to get my "new" RX-7 registered in Atlanta. One problem, the 3" pipe goes from the turbo out the ass of the car. Oops! So, I ordered the high-flow cat from RX-7store.net and I hope that strapping that to the car will make me pass.

However, I was wondering if anyone here knew any secrets to passing emissions around here. Even with the cat, I'm afraid that I won't pass as I have no precat or airpump. Any suggestions?

PM me if it should not be public info. Thanks!

I put a cat on my vert when it was N/A and it DID NOT PASS AT ALL. Failed like 2 categories. I was not pleased, and that was $200 down the tube. I think it's come down to move to a different county or know a guy. I wish my car was an 83.

If you're close to being grandfathered, it might be worth your time to just buy off a test for the few remaining years you've got to pass.

Thanks guys! I also live in Miami so my last ditched attempt I will drive down there and register over there.

I'm going to try to change my oil, spark plugs, and fuel filter as well as install the high-flow cat. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

emissions testing

I do know that once you have spent over 600.00 for repairs on the car then the state will issue you a tag even if it doesnt pass. I am sure you can come up with some receipts for work done on it.

Really, I did not know that. How does that work? I had never heard of that loophole before.

Also, has anyone tried running denatured alcohol in an empty gas tank or is that just an urban legend.

Most likely urban legend, but a good dosing of sea foam might help.

mikeric 02-11-08 07:52 PM

I have read bad things about sea foam on this forum. You recommend it?

mikeric 02-12-08 08:54 PM

Soooooo

I went to try emissions today. My cat worked pretty good, but the guy said that I was running rich. Anyone around here know how to tune the FC Commander that can help me out?

mikeric 02-14-08 11:18 AM

I don't know if this helps but here is what my readings said:

25/25 Test: 50/15 Test:

Reading Allowed Reading Allowed
HC PPM 719 132 Fail 799 136 Fail
CO% 2.98 .73 Fail 2.34 .76 Fail
NOxPPM 203 943 Pass 348 1045 Pass
RPM 1950 3000 max 1762 3000 max
CO+CO2% 15.8 6 min 15.5 6 min

Mike are you running a factory catalytic converter? If not, I highly recommend borrowing or aquiring one and then run the piss out of the car before you actually get the test done. The hotter the cat gets the more efficient it will be, this is how I got my car to pass back when it was a rotary. If you can't make that happen, send my a PM and I will give you some more information.

I believe if you have can get a utility bill from you Miami res, you can fill out a out-of-state registration and not have to do emissions by saying the car isn't in state. Look into it. I registrated with a friend in Clarke County. In Georgia, you can co-own a car with anyone. Or you can just find a guy to pay off.

Out of Area Extensions: To apply for a student, military or business extension, the motorist must: 1) complete an Out of Area Extension application, 2) present documentation to prove the vehicle is out of the area, 3) present documentation to prove the owner/family member is out of the area, and 4) show proof of ownership. The applicant must be temporarily located welloutside the 13-county emission testing area of the state of Georgia. Applications may be acquired from any GCAF Service Center or downloaded from the GCAF website. Motorists may e-mail, fax (404.494.3743 or 770.514.6419), mail or hand-deliver the application to a GCAF Service Center. Vehicles must be tested upon return to the covered area.
