Alright, so a few weeks ago I got the motor installed in my '87 TurboII. But the car will not start for the life of me. There wouldn't happen to be anyone in the area that could help me out, eh? If so that would be great, because I just can't figure this one out. The car has fuel, spark, and compression, everything appears to be hooked up and operational, so what gives?

I'd appreciate anyone who'd be able to help out.

Has the car been sitting for a while? Check if there are exhaust gases coming out of the tailpipe when u r cranking it if there aren't any, your catalytic could be clogged up.

Fresh rebuild or used motor? I personally used starter fluid (my father sprayed very lightly into the intake and I cranked until it started up) and if you cant get it to run using that then you left something out. I would flood my engine pretty badly every time I tried to start because I left the ECU ground unhooked which caused all kinds of problems.

does it kick over at all? it could be a bad or poorly mounted AFM. tell us more about the setup and about what has been checked.

about starting fluid. . . that stuff is VERY dangerous. use it sparingly as stated. also, its not a great idea to use it on a fresh rebuild due to no oil being pumped through the engine. it could easily strip the assembly lube off the walls and cause premature scarring. . . if you DO use it. . . use very little.

Check the grounds. Long time ago we installed a motor in my TurboII and it wouldn't start because of a simple ground.

The AFM tested bad. I ordered a used working one from a 929 that I will fab up to work. The motor has been sitting for about 8 months. The ECU is not currently grounded as I was testing the leads, however it was grounded. The motor has fuel, spark, and compression. I have gotten it to start using starter fluid several times, and twice without it. It seems the motor floods anytime I try to start it, but I belive that's due to the AFM thinking it's about 30 degrees outside. The times it has started, it would die within seconds.

Try giving it a little throttle when you're starting it?

That helped me when I first put my engine back together.

Also, restab the CAS to make sure the timing is close to spec.

im confident its the afm based on those characteristics. . . you should be driving soon.
