Viper Tires on a Gen 3 RX-7
 

Hey guys, I'm new to these forums so please excuse the ignorance. I've just secured the funds to purchase an RX-7 and I'm eager to mod it. As of right now I'm still in my newby stage where I'll have to keep my mouth shut and absorbe the information around me. But I've been searching for a week now and I can't find any help.


I was reading an article in either Turbo Magazine or some other source, and I noticed an outrageous RX-7 with an LS1 engine with 18x10 front and 19x13 rear rims THE DODGE VIPER SPECS MY DREAM CAR BTW.

I want to know would I have any problems mounting such tires on my Gen 3, if so what would I need to modify in order to make them functional.

Right now I'm working with a Rotory mechanic who will perform all my reliabilty MODs to the car then transition to the power adding phase where I'll be under his wing learning everything I possibly can.

BUT till Then I WANT THAT BEASTLY LOOK!!!

if your car is stock then wheels/tires that large and heavy will really slow you down.

you will need coilovers to get 18x10s to fit in the front. for the rears, good luck. i run 17x10s and 275/40s, that is as wide as most FD guys go.

You can go wider but you have to put fender flares. My mechanic has a FD and his rear tires are 335 30 18 I think its a 18x13 but dont take my word for it. The bigest I have seen on an FD without the flares were the 275 becouse anything biger just wont fit.

The coilovers shouldn't be a prob. As of now I'm still researching the Pros and Cons of Upgrading my turbo, I'm looking at the GT34R kit, what would you guys suggest.

285's fit.

You can run 285/30/18's up front on either 18x10 or 18x10.5" rims and as large as a 305/18 out back with the proper offset, coilovers and rolled fender lips. With Petit flares out back you can fit 335/35/18's.

I have 285/30/18's all around on 18x10.5" CCW's. Up front is tight... rear could fit a bit more... but the car is well balanced as is.

Last time I was at my tuner's house, he had a 20B FD that was running 285s up front and 315s in the rear. All he had was rolled front fenders and Peter Farrel flares in the back, i think.

dwayne (rx7up) has 285s in the back..they dont rub..

maxcooper and turb0x2 have 10" 285s on all corners with no issues.

Pettit flares and the right offset can allow 13" wide rubber on a 17" rim. 18 and 19" are pretty much out of the question. Viper rears are 345/35-19's

Il be using 335/15-17's and pettit flares. 12.75 inches of rubber, it will be a tight fit in there for sure. :)

Any pix? I'm interested in seeing what those look like.
