Rotary Engine Animation
Hey all, here is an animation I created in autodesk inventor. If anyone is doing a similar project for an engineering graphics course I could give some pointers such as constraining parts, creating the epitrochoid shape, etc.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKSGXelESAM Its a pretty basic representation. I would have liked to model it more realistically, but I ran out of time. The dimensions are loosely based off of the 12a engine. Cheers, George III |
damn that pretty good job. How long did it take you?
Was this for an undergraduate course? |

A little time applying materials and lighting would improve presentation exponentially |
Neat, nice work.

Thanks for the replies. It took quite a while to constrain the different parts. I created a much simpler one rotor version to figure out if it was possible. Once i got that working I created the two rotor version and animated it in about 2 days working 8 hours each. This was for an undergrad class.
I could certainly go back and apply different surface styles with bump maps, but the PC I have at home is so slow it might take months to render. Also, now that I'm home from school I get to work on my real rotary engine! |
very impressive

Nice. Animate what happens if an apex seal goes :p
