New type of blow off valve?

I was looking through streetfire and stumbled upon this blow off valve. It looks nice and seems to work perfect, but it kinda looks like an HKS SSQV valve. What do you guys think?

I cant find it on their website?

prjct87rx7 09-14-06 08:37 PM

looks like it would cause a vacume leak at idle??? the way its open until you hit the gas

BuffDaddy915 09-15-06 12:10 PM

Well I just e-mailed them asking if they have tested it on an 93 RX-7. Lets see what what tey say..

JJ,

Thank you for the questions. This is the first BOV in existence that is designed to have an economy and race mode. Economy is what was on the video, the valve is open at idle, and so you are bypassing the turbo at cruising and all the restrictions that go with the intercooler, so you get better fuel economy. The race setting will have the valve closed at idle and vacuum.

However, for the RX-7 and other mass air cars, my recommendation is really to reroute the discharge back after the air flow meter, as it is OEM. I would appreciate it if you could forward this info to your fellow RX7 guys on the board.

Best regards,

Peter

Hey, Im wondering If you have tested this bov on a 1993 RX-7. I found a link to the video you guys made of it on an S200 on the rx7club.com. A little discussion brought up the fact that the way this is designed would cause a vaccum leak in our cars at idle.

Also, It looks like a nice product with an awesome design. Good job on getting your bov to work instantly like that.

So guys..whatcha think now?

Seems like a good BOV IMO. Also, it seems like that is a pretty cool guy to have gotten back to you so quick.

I wish I could hear what it sounds like in Race Mode. It seems so quiet.

JJ,

Here’s an updated video, so that you can hear the BOV on a moving car, and what compressor surge sounds like.

Big question.........
I undestand the advantages of bypassing the turbo and IC during N/A operation, but what about all the dirt and dust thats being drawn in through the BOV, since its effectively bypassing the air cleaner?

The vid doesn't work anymore. Sup, buffdaddy?

Eva001Ikari 09-20-06 01:01 AM

yea like he said, what about all the dirt and crap that gets in there?

Sounds like the car keeps wanting to die!

Apparantly he thinks our car is "an air mass car"

2nd generation RX-7's (1986-1991) use a MAF (Mass Air Flow Meter). Or more commonly called just a AFM (Air Flow Meter) since it is not that massive. Mazda then went to MAP sensors with the later generation RX-7 models.
