My last nurburgring trip - ALMOST a 7 minute lap.

Guys,

Some videos of my last ring trip.

http://www.youtube.com/profile_video...waspishbobfish

If it werent for the MX5 and the 318 in the 8:01 BTG lap it would have been a 7 minute lap im sure...

Spec of the car is stock twins standard ports running 1 bar. Coilovers, polybushes, v mount, 6 pot 330mm brakes and a couple other bits.

Enjoy!

SLOASFK 07-16-08 04:31 AM

That's amazing...a lightly modified street RX-7 running a 7 minute lap...good stuff :icon_tup: You couldn't be making more than 350whp. Everyone has their panties in a bunch of some 600+hp vette running a 7.20whatever.

Long live the 7

Howard Coleman 07-16-08 09:16 AM

nice drive.

loved the way you drove harder just after passing each car.

sure looks like a great way to spend 7 minutes.

FD in it's element. thanks for sharing.

dgeesaman 07-16-08 11:33 AM

What brake pads were you running?

BobfisH 07-16-08 12:06 PM

Thanks for the comments guys :)

SLOASFK, the 7:26 'vette was a 7:26 IIRC, but it was a FULL lap (i.e straight included) my lap is only bridge to gantry, so estimated full lap of 8:35 including the straight. That puts me a long way off mr 600hp vette! But i do have traffic, and no race experience!

Howard, not sure what you mean about drove harder? And yes, it is a great way to spend 7 minutes. Except for the fact it makes every other track simply boring!!

Dgeesaman, the pads were ferodo DS2500 - but the brake kit is an AP racing 330mm 6 pot setup with huge ducts and Castrol SRF fluid (used in F1). It works well :)

Oh and yes, the car has been rolling roaded at 319hp, i run it safe for the track :)

mrb63083 07-16-08 12:07 PM

Good job!

ArmitageGVR4 07-16-08 12:22 PM

Amazing drive - I'm so jealous. You were hung up in so much traffic that I bet you could break the 7 minute mark easily if you had a clean run.

RX7 RAGE 07-16-08 12:24 PM

nice run

87 t-66 07-16-08 12:47 PM

:bigthumb: i'm envious.

recardo 07-16-08 01:15 PM

wish there was a track like that in L.A. im pretty sure if there was a track like that there would probblably be bumper to bumper traffic.. lol

gracer7-rx7 07-16-08 01:58 PM

Congrats Bob. Awesome run. You make us FD owners proud. :)

More like nobody would get a lap in because they'd be spending too much time cleaning up all the yahoos who wadded into the guardrail...

At least the 'Ring has policies to keep most of the yahoos off the course. For instance, if you crash and force the course to be closed in order to clean up your mess, you're dinged for about $2000 for every hour the course is closed. Even if the safety car has to come out, you're billed for about $120 every 30 minutes it's on course. You also have to pay for any repairs to the track, including any guardrail that you screw up. This doesn't include the German 19% VAT, or any towing/ambulance ride fees.

Nice driving on the vid, you were definitely running pretty good.

I thought most cars ran on the outside of the Karussell, but I can see that assumption was probably wrong. The inside banked portion of that corner is so rough that it's almost useless to try and make time there on a bike.

You all should think I´m a lucky person just living 300km away from the Ring! :icon_tup:

Really good driving!
All the german tuners put 1000s of $ into their porsches to run mid 7s.
I would love to see which time RE Amemiyas or Feeds Touge Monsters would run!

TheTwinZ (Peru) 07-16-08 03:01 PM

Nice driving! Well done!

Montego 07-16-08 04:28 PM

nice!

Tim Benton 07-16-08 05:00 PM

thanks for the vid! What kind of rubber did you have on the wheels?

Tim

ZumSpeedRX-7 07-16-08 06:36 PM

awesome video! you made everyone else look like sunday drivers on the track. great driving.

FDZero 07-16-08 06:51 PM

Very, very nice videos. Amazing driving skills, too!

mdpalmer 07-16-08 06:54 PM

Wow, you have balls! Driving that track at speed must be scary as hell. Nice work, love to see vids of the FD on the track--especially that one! Where is your camera mounted?

But... 1 bar boost on stock turbos, at THAT track? You must have a really safe tune. What are your AFRs under boost? Leading timing and split? Don't mean to clutter your thread... you can PM me if you like.

EDIT: just saw you pass a 'couple of dudes on bikes. you rock :bigok:

G's 3rd Gen 07-16-08 06:57 PM

I wouldnt call a 350 whp FD lightly modded. Lightly turboed yes! Nice run!!

Scooter22 07-16-08 07:32 PM

Fantastic!! You did a fine job of managing traffic and still keeping your lap times down.

I noticed you passed a bunch of sport bikes;

I've had some tell me that I'd have troubles keeping up with sport bikes on the road... Roads with turns similar in speed to Nurburging. I've found that the bikers slow me down when I catch up to them. These friends BTW, were online buddies, but just last Sunday I happened to meet up with my best friend and 4 of his friends who invited me to follow along with them on their sport bikes. All of these guys go to track events pretty frequently, so they are pretty quick.

I ended up passing two out of four of them rather quickly and the second was also holding me up. I was scared to push them too hard and see them get hurt though.

What I'm getting at is I always thought the bikes could kick the crap out of the RX-7s, but from what I saw, that isn't true. In a straight line, yes, but we can catch up in a big damn hurry. :D

Scooter :)

RX7LINK 07-16-08 07:57 PM

great driving indeed :icon_tup:

RX7 RAGE 07-16-08 09:00 PM

A guy crashed a subaru there this weekend just gone, he flipped it and hit 3 barriers. Last i heard his bill was 7000 euro and still counting up. And thats not including car repairs!

Karussell you have to go around the inside of, its no fun otherwise :)

Rubber is 225/40/18 front 255/35/18 rear toyo R888 semi slicks.

Car is not 350WHP, it is 319 FWHP!

Map i am unsure of, AFRs apparently (according to a rolling road) are 10:1 sub 4k and 9:1 over 4krpm, but im not sure the car would even run that rich?

In any case, it does run very rich, stinks of fuel, flames all over the place, uses a quarter of a tank a lap (yes you read that right) but doesnt blow up so im happy :)

Well he never said it was making 350whp, I was just saying that was the most he could be making since he's still on stock twins. We all know those brits can't tune a rotary :p except for that one 8 second street 7 that was in Best Motoring lol

I assume FWHP is Flywheel HP, just so people aren't confused and thinking you have an FWD 7 :)

Great run, Bob.

yes its flywheel! Lol!

I'm still waiting for a photo on track w/ a flame. You lucky SOB ;)

BTW you need someone to tune that car. So you're making 310 FWHP with exhaust, IC and intake at close to 15 psi

Nice vids keep em coming. Get that car tuned correctly and I see a 7.45 in your future which is about the time a c6 Z would run on street tires from a standing start on the full course.

Id like to see that C6 do that time from a standing start!

I see a 7:45 in my future with no traffic! Give me another 50hp and id make it a 7:30 :) i hope! lol. I'd be extactic with a 7:xx seeing as im just a computer technician! I secretly dream of being a racing driver though...

seriosuly though, if a C6 does it from a standing start 15 seconds slower than the ZR1 does it with a flying start i will be gobsmacked!

Scooter :)

It all depends on the skill level of the person behind the wheel or the bars. Just because they go to track days doesn't necessarily make them good riders. It takes a considerable amount of skill to pilot a sportbike at a serious pace. Much more than than a car due to the physical movement required and the comparatively tiny tire contact patches.

No need to get involved in a car vs. bike debate here.

Officially it's about 19 seconds slower and I'm not sure if it's from a standing start but based on some BS I read regarding the GTR vid VS the C6 Z vid that's what I gathered.

I have run into the same problem with bikes. Also have buddies that track them, 1 they slow you down on the curves and two you get scare of pushing them and ending with a speed bump in front of you.

maximtaylor 07-19-08 11:49 AM

I've no doubt a sub 8 will happen soon for you Carl, the trouble for both of us is finding clear track to do it with.

I haven't seen a clear lap for over a year now, time to sort some mid-week visits for us :)

Nice ride.

You lost so much time because of the slow MX-5 after Quiddelbacher Höhe. You should put some bright yellow stickers and some blue flickering lights in the front of your car to get some clean air. ;-)

Btw: I don't like the position of the camera in that video.
