Very impressive...that was a joy to watch.

mycarisolderthanme 09-15-06 02:55 AM

Have you seen the other video of the full 'ring? Even more impressive.. it's on my computer somewhere..

technomentor 09-15-06 02:55 AM

He looks very relaxed behind the wheel...
Why don't I see him using his left leg to work the clutch?

FirebirdSlayer666 09-15-06 03:06 AM

Damn. It's amazing how those cars can downshift like that. A few months ago I had a BMW M3 drive by me in Deleware that I swear was as loud if not louder than that. The guy was like a half mile ahead of me and he sounded like he was right next to me. Insane. Nice vid

That's not a stock tranny. It's a full race/dog box that does not require the use of the clutch to up or downshift. You can clearly here the straight cut gears in the video also.

BuffDaddy915 09-15-06 11:16 AM

Thats impressive driving right there. I'd like to be doing that someday. Now I have some questions for the real track racers.

1. I noticed that when downshifting he was doing that while braking. After the transmission engages the rpm's are not real high or anything..is it because of the tranny type he's got or is that because the car brakes that fast? Cuz I didn't notice any rev matching..just downshift and everything was ready to go.

2. He would be going into a turn..upshift (which would make my car have low rpm's and little power that low), but yet he just floors it and has power..how?

3. To the question above, He would be going into a turn..upshift..does he do this because he'll have less power so he doesn't spin out but can still go full throttle through the turn b/c he upshifted?

RX7_Fanatic 09-15-06 02:25 PM

GOD damn that car handles like its on rails (in the hands of a driver like that lol) im sure that if anyone even attempted to push that car they would crash it...

is that car N/A or supercharged, i coulda sworn i heard the whistle of forced induction at some points in that movie...i dunno lol i just wouldnt even know what to think as i was going thru a series of turns and all the sudden just have him blow by me when he wasnt even there like half a second earlier...lol

haha i loved the guys that put on their blinkers showing which way they were gonna pull off to when they saw him coming lol

EDIT: did he set a record or something cuz he was pretty stoked when he finished that lap

Naegleria_Fowleri 09-15-06 05:11 PM

That's awesome.

honestly, that was frightning... how fast he was going... I allmost felt like I couldnt keep up... Wonder what was going through the minds of the other drivers. Madem all look like A Ford Focus

ZOOOOoooooommmm....
"Hey, WTF was that, did I just get laid?"

Wish I was that good... Im usaly not afraid of anything like that... but someone would have to drug me to get in that car...

That was awsome! O.k, I'm going to play GT4 and run a few laps on the ring.

1.That car is an endurance racing car. He probably doesn't downshift too high, because those motors and drivetrain need to last. Just because you are not rev-matching high, doesn't necessarily mean you are not driving fast. Also, it was probably a practice, or test day so he was driving the car a little easy on braking and throttle...while still keeping up a good cornering speed. On race day, he will probably pick his times to go "all out" when he needs too, but doesn't want to strain the car in long races.

2. Yes, he was upshifting to keep the torque to the rear wheels down. This helps on curves that may be bumpy on exit, or if he is wanting to quickly get the rear-end seated so that he can set up for another turn. That BMW has a good bit of midrange power, so it doesn't really hurt to short-shift out of some turns. In the race though, he may not do that as much.

AzEKnightz 09-16-06 10:26 PM

Holy crap, that car is quick and it makes me shiver just how fast hes going on that straighter way. It's awesome!!!!

Thanks man. It makes a lot of sense now.

GTR M3's are E46 GTR shells with a M5 V8 engine worked by BMW Motorsport. It's pushing an asy 600hp out of that thing. Stuck is a BMW factory driver for years in germany and knows his stuff very well. His car is on full BMW Motorsport support and has the best of the best...

gnx7 09-20-06 02:59 AM

Hans Stuck is a badass driver for sure. I think the hardest part would be to memorize the Nurburgring track layout itself. 2 minute laps are a joke compared to how much you have to memorize in that near 10 minute lap.

The car is super planted on every entry and exit of the corners. After his warmup lap in the infield he simply takes off like a bat out of hell. Hans crushed that widebody Porsche and anything else that came into his field of vision like nothing. He is a madman.

Great video!

BobfisH 09-22-06 11:19 AM

That video is of the last, winning lap of the 2004 nurburgring 24 hour open race. Its not a practice, and he is going all out (within reason of course, he didnt want to throw away the race!) And yes, its an awesome video :)

I'm going to the nurburgring myself in my 7 in two weeks. 6th-9th, i cant wait. Keep your eye out for pictures

Check out this video...unbelieveable driving skill:

The M3 GTR uses a 4-liter V8 instead of the I-6 that they first used in the E46 M3 race cars. It has a lot more midrange, and overall produces much more power than you would expect in an M3 race car. BMW was forced to stop using them because they didn't sell enough road going versions of the GTR to continue using it in competition (and also because Porsche was complaining about it being unfair), but Schnitzer Motorsports has a few GTRs that they run. Another thing that makes it easier for the car to stay in the powerband is the gearbox it's running. For lots of racing sequential transmissions, first gear is very tall, and then every gear after that is kept very short and close-together.

Wasn't this the video that someone extrapolated the Nordschliefe time and it came out to something ridiculous like 6:20?

Oh, Stuck drives for Schnitzer Motorsports? Wow, I didn't know that.

Speedworks 09-22-06 03:44 PM

BMW Motorsport is not Schnitzer. The M tech devision is BMW owned, Schnitzer is not.
