Exhaust Flames (vid)
Well I finally got the car back together. Replaced all the vacuum lines with the simplified sequential diagram. Replaced a few torn hoses and couplers, and finally making full boost.
Decided to take the car for a drive last night and took some gopro footage. enjoy! |
lookin good man, love the night footy. what exhaust are you running?
|
Wish my car did that... :(

Looks awesome! I get worried about flames though, makes me think of this picture.

Nice. I love the slow motion footage at the end :)
I get the same flames too, particularly during cold-to-warmup initial driving while its still slightly rich. I seem to get it happening a whole lot more since I put the straight-thru glasspack OBX muffler on the rear. The old JASMA muffler had useless power robbing baffles across it, and never did it. Well, maybe it did, but it was up against an internal baffle plate, so it never came out the tip. |

awesome vid, what mods do you have?
|
engine related mods are just k&n filter, rx7 store DP, midpipe, and hks exhaust. Also replaced all vacuum lines with the simplified sequential diagram, and bought the banzai blockoff plate kit.

i remember when my car shot flames, i fixed the tune.

it was worth a chuckle for about a day or 2, seeing the whole countryside light up behind me. but the smell of hot plastic became a little worrisome.

I agree if you smell burning plastic and are lighting up the area or don't need headlights I'd suggest a retune  |
When my car backfires it doesn't spit flames, I believe if you have a resonator in your mid-pipe it stops the flames? and if you remove the resonator it will cause boost spike? hence you need a PFC to control boost? btw, nice vid :icon_tup:

The flames the OP are shooting are perfectly normal other than all the exhaust fragments.

Mine from a few weeks ago, lol

I helped a friend install a kit so he could shoot flames from the exhaust of his 64 Caddy. I didn't realize that was a free option for rotary cars.

with a properly tuned engine even those flames are not normal, unless the EMS is a brick. in some cases yes, say 450+ where it is rather difficult to keep the tune modest.

I have a couple videos with me shooting flames out there , But the very first day i got my FD on the road , on the stock PFC tune . I was running 10 afrs at WOT I was doing a couple of fun runs my friend who was with me in another car , said that I was driving a flamethrower , and I had a 4 foot flame that he thought my car had caught on fire being a rotary and all . it had been ignited for a good few seconds.
After I worked on the tune it went from flame thrower to quick poofs when I shifted . |

lol that's crazy right there! Btw can you dolphin tail your exhaust to maybe stop the fire from hitting your bumper all the time? I would think after multiple times it would start to get pretty warm and could possibly ignite for more than a second. My fd doesn't shoot flames so just curious to when I eventually start upgrading.

funny story about this , On my way to the dragon . I passed some trucker .. and being that my dad was a truck driver for many years . He told me trucks are very unstable specially when there is a cross wind , so stay clear of them and always pass them quickly even .. so I did just that passed this truck driver . and after a while I stopped for gas . and the same truck driver came into the gas station , and walked up to me
he said MAN what the hell do you have done to this thing .. I wondered what he was talking about for a second , and he said I had passed by him like he was standing still ... incase any cops are reading this he was doing 30 in a 70 mph zone.... and then he goes on to say that while I did that my car was shooting flames he simply could not beleive that the car was basically stock.. all my ccar has is downpipe back exhaust , and PFC and an intercooler , but that doesnt really make flames any bigger lMAO |
