RTek shows both TPS at 20% when at idle

I was trying to diagnose why when the AC is on the engine will die when coming to a stop. The dashpot is turned all the way in and is new (from Ray @ Malloy Mazda) as of a couple of years ago.

The idle is perfectly flat and when the AC or headlights are turned on the RPMs go up to around 1000 so the BAC is working as expected.

I set and monitor the TPS setting with the Zeitronix reading the volts. I get it right around 1.0v as I'm a little anal.

But I was looking at the NB and WB TPS outputs and they read 20% and 21% respectively.

So I put my LED checker on the 3-port plug and sure enough only one LED comes on indicating a perfect TPS setting. And just to make sure I swapped the black LED leads and the lit one switches as you'd expect.

Is the RTek TPS readings normal?

Thanks

Yes. 1v = 20% of 5V

Cool. That's what I suspected. I'd ask why you bothered to convert the voltage reading to percentages given the dissonance between zero throttle and 20% but I'd rather have you working on the Android port!

Thanks a bunch and get back to slingin' Java!

During Idle setup procedure on the rtek, the Rtek is reading the tps in reverse: 100% at 0 throttle and 0% at full throttle.
Any idea how to solve this please?

Either the TPS is mounted incorrectly or the wires are backwards. Has the wiring/ connector ever been apart?

Mad_Al 03-29-17 09:43 AM

It was only unplugged to test it with a DMM. Maybe when plugging it back in it got dirty. going to clean the pins once i get back home

The TPS has 3 wires, ground, +5V and the output. If the ground and +5 were swapped some how, it would read backwards.

I can't see any other way that it could flip the relationship other than a mechanical issue.

I can see them getting switched as I DID it when I wired a TPS to my car.
The thing that Deceives you is that the wiring connection goes "backwards" when you put them together...so the bottom 2 connections do not match up.
But ya,If it is stock stuff you are working with and nothing has been touched there is something fishy.

Its showing the tps the correct way when logging. But in reverse when setting idle. weird stuff. Car ran 50 miles in 2 years. always on the lift:( but love looking at it

Unplugged cleaned and plugged the connector and it worked again as intended. Really strange since i can't figure out why it read wrongly before. I also swear that i was sober when it occured

Corroded connectors will give you a funky reading,so I guess just chalk it up to that..
If it works now,do not question it!..lol!

Finally managed to set tps idle etc. Car ran well then wideband sensor broke. Two days later while cruising and pulling up on our interstate ramp the i hear a plop sound and car started to run rough and misfire from the left tip of the exhaust and boost gauge jumps up and down and smells really rich. I wonder/hope if its just a hose that broke lose or spark plug went bad, hope nothing is damaged. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Check your intake hoses.
