RTEK 2.1 - Runs Super Lean Under Normal/ Easy Driving

Hey I just got an RTEK 2.1 for my 83 rx7. I'm using an 88 JDM Turbo II engine. I connected the RTEK and now if I slightly press the throttle, the car runs 16/17:1 according to my wideband. I haven't risked getting under boost with it, because I figure that'd be the end of the motor.

I've tried up the fuel pressure from 39psi to 45psi, checking to make sure I didn't knock a wire loose when switching ECUs. I know that the BACV is different between the US and JDM models, so I've tried running the car with and without it connected. I checked for vacuum leaks as well. I switched back to the japanese ecu and it ran fine, about 10.5/11:1 AFR under 7-8psi.

I'm hoping its just a setting I've missed. My TPS is a little out of spec, the Palm says its 31% but I never had an issues with the Japanese computer. I'd appreciate any help ya'll can offer. If I had to guess at the problem, it seems like it isn't detecting load. Just cruising up a slight incline makes it run lean. It tops out around 45mph in 4th gear, it starts really hunting for fuel there.

Thanks again for anything ya'll can offer.

It's been a long time since I played with an RTEK 2.1 on my S5T2, but the first thing I'd do is verify that the fuel injector presets in the RTEK software match up to the FI's you're actually running. IIRC, the RTEK had presets for the OEM 550cc FIs, and presets for 720-ish cc FIs, and there were separate settings for primary & secondary injectors so you can have different primary & secondary injectors. So if the RTEK is configured for running the 720cc FIs, but you're really running the 550s, it will run lean.

Thanks, I reset the ecu when I got it so it's set to 550 primary/ 550 secondary

I would certainly fix the TPS calibration. It's an integral part of the fueling calculation.
What other mods do you have? Any porting? Intake mods? Does your AFM show reasonable values?

stock ported engine; I've got a free-flowing exhaust, walboro 255lph and adjustable fuel pressure regulator, cdi box, electronic boost controller. also have an aluminum flywheel but I wouldn't think that would affect anything .

I've got a couple USDM ecus. I'm gonna try one and see how the cars acts. I'll adjust the TPS as well. I didn't Check the AFM since it runs fine with the original ecu.

so I switched to a N332 ecu and same the same 'lean all the time' issue, so I swapped back in the Japanese computer and it ran fine. so im gonna stick with that one until I get some time to try to fight with it again. but at least, it seems like the rtek ecu isn't bad.

I'm going to get a US BACV, so if anyone has one they're like to sell, please pm me. ill asjust the TPS to spec as well. Ill post my results/ any other issues I hit when intry to RTEK again... just in case anyone else has JDM motor theyre using and trying to use a US ecu.

Thanks again to everyone who offered help, I really appreciate it.
