rtek 1.7 question
 

ok just a quick question...i just got my hands on 2 cleaned and tested gslse injectors(680's) well i know that witht he rtek 1.7 you need 720's but i wanted to know if it was possible to run the 680's with the rtek for now until i get my sfac2......just would like to know the BAD from all of this...please dont flame lol

Well the bad in this case is that your car will run lean. The Rtek 1.7 needs to see at least 720cc injectors or there is a good chance that you will detonate and pop your motor. So I would say sell the 680s and get yourself some 720's.

i was told that the rtek 1.7 runs rich anyway so thats why i thought i could have ran the 680's for now dont get me wrong i am getting a safc eventually but i need my car running a little better than before,i have a hks megaflow intake,racingbeat 3in turboback exhaust,walbro fuel pump and my car see's about 12 psi of boost..so honestly i think i would have a better chance of not blowing up with the 680 in there.....but let me know..anyone else have info on this?

We say you need 720s. Why is it that people don't believe us?

Can you run 680s? Sure, you can do anything you want, we can't stop you. All we can do is tell you what the requirements of the chip are. I am assuming if you are willing to try the 680s that you know what you are doing and you have a wideband to make sure you aren't running lean right? Just because one persons car runs rich, doesn't means everyone's car is going to run rich. Who said it ran rich? Did they have exactly the same mods as you and running the same boost as you?

Bottom line is unless you *really* know what you are doing, and have the equipment and knowledge to know you are not running lean, then why would you want to take the risk of blowing up, just to save a few dollars or because you didn't want to wait to get the AFC?

There is a very simple answer then: Turn the boost down. There is no reason to be running 12 psi if you think you might blow up.

Theres no way of telling which is the lesser of the two evils without a wideband and actually testing the two configurations. Just save yourself the headache and turn your boost down until you get the proper supporting mods.

yea i starte dthat thread and no i wasn't hoping the answer would change...its just that i thought that i would be safer by running the 680 instead of 550's....honestly you gotta see where i was coming from with this..but thanks anyway

The rtek 1.7 is programmed to provide stock fueling with 720 secondaries. So in essence, 720s with the Rtek 1.7 and the stock ECU with 550s will provide nearly identical fueling for a given condition. If you put 680s instead of 720s in there, it will be that much leaner than your current 550/stock ECU setup. Will it be lean enough to blow? Only the wideband knows.
