still probly have to buy a palm for now - or jump on facebook and get your friends to check in the closets. usually at least one person has one! i have a Tungston T3 (crappy, but works if you can get over the disconnecting all the time). Totally worth it though, rTek is the shizzzzzz :icon_tup:

Let's not forget people have had success running Palm OS emulations on their laptops, that would avoid having to track down a Palm.

Good news on two fronts...I am FINALLY back at this.

The new BT hardware streams data 35% faster than before and it's MUCH more stable. I'm getting samples/sec of over 108, vs around 60 with the old hardware with 4 parameters.. With 8 parameters we are seeing 170s/Sec. I think that might actually be faster than the Palm? This is on the Vizio VTAB1008.

The whole connection process is a little wanky, but I think it's just a matter of tweaking the code

This hardware is clearly better. I just tried streaming mode...with the old hardware, the problem was that once I turned on streaming mode, the radio would be overwhelmed and the command to turn off streaming mode would never get through, rendering everything useless. This one seems to work fine....currently running 264s/Sec with 8 params and able to switch between streaming and non streaming mode without problems.

since the software will use SPP to connect via bluetooth, alll google devices will support it, well, the Nexus phone and tablet anyway as far as I know. I have the galaxy nexus and will probably get the nexus 7 later on.

Android 2.2 and up should support it but it depends on the bluetooth chip that is used.

I JUST noticed the Export to SD card feature was on the Todo list (maybe) that is the best idea. my stupid palm is always dieing when i go days without charging when i'm not tuning and i'll come back and freak out and have to re-sync to get the rtek back on it. then pull the Current map from the ECU and save it. would be hella easier if i could push the map out to the card YES.

Have very basic unoptimized (read: slow) datalogging working. It collects data and stores it in an internal SQLite database. I know there is room for optimization, I just hope it's enough to get the full speed back.

FYI, I'll tell you right now, this app will be 100% a battery hog and there's no getting around it, so expect to have to have a charger plugged in to use it for any length of time.

In lieu of beta testers, I've been thinking of running a kickstarter-like sale to help raise funds and get people involved. Something like..

$5 - get your name listed in the software credits
$25 - Name listed in credits and a T-Shirt
$50 - Credit, t-shrirt and a BT dongle when officially released
$100 - All of the above, but you will get a pre-release version
$300 - Beta test, all of the above but you get BT dongle and software right now, and have daily access to the latest version.
$500 - all of the above, plus you get your name silkscreened on the BT dongle hardware
$1000+ All of the above, plus a Google Nexus 7 Tablet engraved with a rotor on the back and your choice of text.

It wouldn't cost anything to update.

This is just a preliminary idea. No set prices or timeframe as of yet.

Seriously... I never considered trying to tune my NA... This is on my buy list now... waaaaay out from left field..... Heh wonder if I fall into beta testing category, few months ago picked up an HTC one s.

Good news..
Logging 14 parameters, we get 294s/s, which translates to getting each parameter 21 times a second. I got it storing data at that rate as well, with no perceivable change in data rate.

guess if I already had the 2.1 I'd know what all these meant! So is the data rate limited only by the RX7's ECU or by both the ECU and programing device's limitation?

Not really a discussion on what limits what, but just a declaration of discovering that the android system will keep up with the data stream....so far. Writing apps for android puts the developer much farther away from the core processor than writing for the Palm. That means there could be bottlenecks in the OS that the developer has no control over...which would be a bad thing. But so far so good.

Starting to look into the most efficient way to render graphs...and whether I should start diving into OpenGL. I could see that being useful for 3d renders of the fuel maps, but not sure it's worth it as it's a lot of extra code..at least it seems.
