Am I making the right decision with this rtek?
 

Alright guys so first off ill tell you about my build setup. S4 t2 running 9.4 rotors, emissions, power steering delete, v-mount with koyo rad and efan. stock s4 Turbo with ported wastegate. Walbro fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, STOCK t2 580 injectors. Stock ports. No desire to boost over 10 psi in the foreseable future.

So my delimma is this, i have a chance at getting rtek 2.0 for cheap with palm, sync cables and a number of cd's with a ton of basemaps. Now normally I wouldn't even need rtek with this setup, but seeing as how i am going to be running high compression rotors, i need to be able to adjust fuel and timing to prevent detonation. Now I know that 2.1 enables you to adjust fuel of +/- 35% or wwhatever, but will i even need to adjust fuel that much for simply running these rotors wwith stock injectors?

I do not have any sspecific power goals, as this is my first turbo swap and am using this as a learning experience and to have fun with it for a while and eventually upgrade everything (Turbo, injectors and whatnot) I also understand that 2.0 can be upgraded to 2.1 for a nominal fee so that's a plus.

Basically, what i am asking is will rtek 2.0 suffice for my build aspirations as of right now to be able to enjoy the car safely until I feel more comfortable upgrading more? (in which time ill obviously upgrade to 2.1) or is it not even worth it no matter what type of deal i am getting on it?

You are forgetting about something. The Rtek 2.1 offers datalogging of the stock ECU. An SAFC can't really do that. So if you have lean spot, you can see it. If you have a diagnostic code (check engine equivalent) you can see that. You can adjust cranking fuel to prevent flooding.

Is running a stock ecu an option for the OP? or will the high comp rotors force him to get a ems?

I can run sstock ecu but only for aa few psi boost. The timing has to be adjusted more than the stock ecu would adjust it for a stock setup. For instance the stock ecu would retard/advance timing by say 8 degrees at 7 psi. But since i have the 9.4 rotors i would nees it to be around +/- 12. Also, with the 9.4 rotors u will be building boost earlier than stock rrotors. (From whay ive read anyways)

I made a noob mistake if misreading the web site though. I though it cost $100+ to upgrade 2.0 to 2.1. But since its only 15 bucks, I'm just gonna send in the ecu and get it upgraded to 2.1.

Good plan. The stock ecu really isn't a viable option for anything other than turbo rotors on a stock turbo.

sounds like a good set up to me to have fun. i've had soo much 9:4 rotors laying around that i wanted to do this too. but yes the rtek is great. unless u want 350+ hp you'll be good for now! have fun
