Soft cut
Soft to hard
Hard cut
Hard to soft

I run only one 6AL on my leading. I'm going to hook my 2 Step up so that it turns the trailing off while it's engaged. Which type of two step does that make it?

Which is best for launching with big boost?

What 2 steps are you running MSD or some other brand?
 

LUPE, I read your post and was a little confused I thought there was only 1 type of 2 step. Most ignition setups I have seen use 2 X 6AL or 2 X 7AL configurations with
2 X 2 step units to control burnout, launch or Max RPM. Turning off your Trailing sounds kind of interesting not sure how that will work. I always looked at my 2/3 step units as boost builders but, man that shit sounds crazy when a Rotary bumps off the rev limiter. REALLY REALLY loud explosions out the tail pipe.

I'm just going by an old post that Crispeed made. Someone asked about two steps and he said that there were different kinds (The ones I posted above).


I don't have a computer that supports the 2 step. Crispeed said that I could wire the clutch switch or button to activate the two-step on the leading ignition and completely turn the trailing off with a relay. He said just run the trailing ignition's power through a normally-closed relay and the clutch opens the relay. That way when you're staged it only runs on leading ignition, you don't have to worry about the separate rev limiters working out of phase and accidentally fire the trailing. Then when you dump the clutch or let off the button the trailing comes back on-line.

I'll be hooking mine up this weekend like this. I'll be setting my high side to 8,200 rpm's and my low side to 7,000 rpms. I'm curious to see how much boost I can build this way. Should make alot of noise :)

I was at Moroso in FL. 2005 , when DEE KARIGANIS did a 7.67 in a car very much like yours, when it was ready to launch I never heard anything like it, bangin,snapin,popin, ready to blow up, as soon as a load was on it ,it pulled like crazy,smooth as silk!! donno whats going on there but it seemed to work.. Well I believe that's what MSD calls it. I guess you're not using MSD's? :)
As for shifting fast well I guess with no syncros and 3/4 of the dogs missing on the gears full throttle shifts still using the clutch is possible.
You know you can do the same with the stock tranny.:)

Well, I'm using MSD's two step box but the whole shutting down the trailing isn't exactly MSD :)


What do you mean, you don't have synchros and 3/4 of the dogs missing? Are you pulling my leg? You took that out? I didn't think that was possible with the stock transmission?
