Team Puerto Rico Heads Down under

The Worlds Fastest Mazda 13B powered car is on it's way to the 20th Annual Jamboree from Puerto Rico. The Sporty Motorsports team of Gaby Skern & Eddie Colon have just finished loading the World Record Holding Mazda RX7 into the container bound for J20 at Willowbank Raceway in Australia.Sporty (as the RX7 is known) has clocked the beams at an amazing 6.900 @ 198.4 mph (319.3kph) The team are very excited about being able to unleash the RX7 on Willowbank's legendary track, with the goal of cracking the magical 200mph barrier and dropping into the 6.8sec zone on Australian soil.

Also making their way to Australia is the Pica Motors El Yankee RX8 team. The El Yankee was purchased by Jon Blanch of Microtechefi.com in Australia late last year.
When it hits the track for the 1st time in Australia the original driver Jorge 'Chivirico "Rivera will be at the controls. Jorge Lazcano will be attending looking to adjust the machine and enter the low 7sec zone again. Blanch is a regular in Puerto Rico and has been heavily involved in the development of the Sporty Motorsports RX7. That involvement will see a similar engine combination fitted to El Yankee for the 2010 Jamboree. El Yankee is no slouch either and has run a string of low 7sec passes with a best of 7.14 @ 191mph (307.4kph) With the new engine combination the El Yankee team will be on the chase to take Sporty's crown

Both cars will compete in the Turbosmart Pro Compact class come August 21/22 and you can bet the Aussie Turbosmart Pro Competitors of Rodrigues, Rehayem, Willshire, Nabhan, Magliveras and others will be out flying the Aussie flag high. Special thanks goes out to Microtechefi.com & Xtreme Rotories for helping make this trip possible. When the Puerto Ricans last toured in 2006 it was one of the biggest Jamboree's ever and J20 is shaping up to be the same. Checkout Sporty in action below.!!!

Sporty was shipped to NZ instead of Australia.. Ray Box, the event promoter tried his best to get the car to Australia at whatever cost (air freight) but I guess with customs and all the other stuff, the car was unable to be at the track. El Yankee Rx8 was there with the whole Pica crew, but only managed a few 8 second passes. I think Jon is still sorting out his new combo with the Yankee.

I was 99% set to go to Australia but had unforeseen family issues, so we opted to sit it out till next year.

Big congrats to the Dyson boys for running an incredible 7.68 @ 180 in their 20b powered STOCK CHASSIS - 28 x9" tire Rx3.. They laid down several 7 second passes throughout the event.
Also congrats to PAC for taking their Mazda 6 into the finals while beating out all of those 2JZ's... Unfortunately the 20b power wasn't enough to get the win against Rod Harvey.
George Rehayem 6.960@207.34 (4.547@158.77 @ 660ft)
Rod Harvey 6.410@224.21 (4.208@170.56 @ 660ft) - Now the world's fastest Sport Compact doorslammer

GO THE KIWI'S!!!

Big hand to Rod Harvey 6.41@224mph!!!!!

Man, that has to be frustrating! First a car gets shipped to the wrong place and then the other car has new setup problems/bugs. I thought Yankee had it dialed in pretty good before they left?

RoTaRyBoYz 08-23-10 04:22 PM

^ Yankee was sold to Microtech's Jon Blanch 2 years ago and is now running a new engine & Xtreme Rotaries TB setup.. Before the car got sold, it used a modified Cosmo intake manifold with a "Loquito killer" engine & Oso tune.

Definitely it has to be frustrating to spend all that money, about $20k round trip freight plus plane tickets for the crew, and not have the car arrive on time. Compact attack is early next year, but it may be to far away to have the car sitting in Australia for that long.

Here's a quote from Blanch explaining the situation. Seem like a stand up guy. :icon_tup:

I'm the first to put my hand up & admit my Jambo week sucked big time & unlike a lot of other people in the industry have the balls to stand up in front of everyone & say i'm human & hurt 2 engines during the week. It's a part of learning & a part of racing that these things happen & if people weren't pushing these engines to the limit then there would be no forward progress in the sport. If anyone wants to throw shit at me for getting out there & having a go then go right ahead. It's going to take a little more than that to upset me
Unfortunately for me I only got the car running on the Sunday & took it straight to the dyno & then loaded it up to head to Jamboree on the monday with no time to do any private testing before Wednesday or collect any data. I knew there were problems on Wednesday that needed fixing & had I been able to would have gladly pulled the pin & took the car back home to find the problem & sort it out instead of running the event.
But.......... with a bunch of Puerto Rican guys standing alongside me who travelled around the world to put on a show,a big bunch of sponsors who had put their money on the table, then the news that Sporty wasn't going to make it on time plus all the Aussie rotary fans who wanted to see the car at Jamboree i decided to stick it out,put my ego aside & give it my best shot to make the best of a bad situation.

The new combination in the car is something that is different to what any of us have tried before & will take some time to sort out but i'm sure as hell not going to give up that easily.I could take the easy way out & go back to the old proven combo but I am confident that this new set up will be much better in the long run even if I have to take a few steps back to make some forward ones down the track.I am thankful I have the entire Puerto Rican contingent in my corner & proud to have such good friends in those guys & look forward to making some improvements & getting back out there again soon. Not to mention the good bunch of guys I have around me here in Oz who are behind me all the way too

The past weekend all of us Aussies were on show to the world with the Puerto Ricans being here. I believe it was our responsibility to be professional, show them a good time & put on as good a show as possible & I think the majority of us did a great job of doing so.Even with the Yankee not performing well & Sporty not even making it to the event all the guys left here loving Australia, made a lot of new friends & contacts & are all looking forward to coming back here again next year which is something that is a positive for our sport. (maybe all the hot blondies at Hollywood & the drinks at Sin City helped contribute to this just a little)

Considering the circumstances I think it was an awesome event..........
Hat's off to my good mate Dib Taouil for throwing the keys to little Eddie just so he could have a run on Australian soil. Not too many guys would have done this & to see Eddie make it all the way to the final was a great effort. To come second to a freak like Wayne Dyson is an honour in my book.Respect to you Wayne in what I think was by far the biggest highlight of Jamboree

That being said I am stoked to have Yankee at the track for the first time & am overwhelmed at the amount of people who commented on how awesome the car looks & the support I have recieved from so many people after the weekend wishing me all the best with the car. & to put to rest any rumours that may be circulating the car is indeed mine & will be making Australia home & not heading back to Puerto Rico any time soon. Thank you to my brother Pica for giving me such a great opportunity with the car & for sticking by me when I was down & out. It's now my turn to repay the favour to you
Jambo is over & done with for another year & although I spent a fortune & things didn't go as well as I would have liked I am holding my head high & me & all my crew are already making plans for next year
Hopefully Sporty can make it back here & make it in time for J21 & those guys can make their dream of running the car in oz a reality too
Regards Blanchy

^ Not to sure about that... IIRC in another video, the Mazda 6 went red in the finals..
