Rotaries once again kick as........ at Atco.
The rotaries did very well at Atco, NJ this weekend with Pica winning the modified category and Dee as the runner up. With the new rule changes the rotaries are once again very competitive. Some of the videos are posted at AGRACINGPHOTO.COM.:lach:

There weren't any rotaries at Nopi. But the modified class runs very low 7's which a 13B doesn't stack up against too well. Plus now they have Turbo V8 Mustangs in that class which makes it even crazier. The street class was all Supra's again running mid to low 9's. The turnout at MIR wasn't that good, but I suppose two races within 100 miles of each other doesn't help either.

How low of a 7 secs in the NOPI modified class? The winner of the last two NHRA modified class is running 7:40's and 7:50's at 200 lbs. overweight. The NHRA sport RWD are running low to mid 9's. Any idea of the NOPI and NHRA difference in rules ie; weight, etc?
The main difference for the modified cars in Nopi would be the 6cyls are alloweed to use bigger turbos. That's why Paul and Justin's 2jz's are running low 7's at Nopi. |

If you look at the last NHRA event at Atco, the pro classes had only a few cars. Let's also look at Sport RWD. 2 years ago that class had a full field at every event, everyone was building their cars for that class. For the last few events in that class it's only been 2-4 cars total. Why? If you run in Sport RWD then you need to go to the track both the Sat AND Sun. Sat to qualify (which is easy now) and Sun for eliminations. Thats double the cost on gas, tolls, c16 etc.... Then you got the suburu running low 9s when realistically everything else is high 9s low 10s. It's not worth it for a measly $500 payout for 1st place and forget about the hassles of contingency. At this last NHRA event at atco there were ONLY 2 cars in Sport RWD and it's the same 2, the suburu and the 240sx. They are both running low 9's. The class was designed for street registered cars with full interior etc but the Suburu is taking that to another level. You gotta love the payout of $500 for 1st place!!! I just heard that the Pica 1st gen RX7 is going to stay in the states for a couple more of the NHRA events. It seems they got a sponsor out of Puerto Rico so things will be getting very interesting for sure.

Yes it is all real exciting indeed. Just too bad I'm overseas and missing all the fun. I can't wait to come home for the fall nationals.
BTW I was watching a couple of the videos from Englishtown and I have got to give a big thumbs up to the guys from the 2 Fast to Paint crew. The improvements made to that car really show. Congratulations to all representing from the rotary crowd. |

In the NHRA event Team Pica were the record holders with 7:49... Tonight here in PR "La Sarita" ran 7.59 then ran 7.50... Congratulations to them!!! And also must speak for ourselves running 7:71 with 2,276 lbs of RX7 on our backs... Also remember, making a good light makes a great race... agracingphoto has tonight's videos... |
