Ron's mechanical pumps

Anyone have any experience with the Ron's Mechanical fuel Pump and how far away I can put my Fuel Cell? I would like to put the Fuel Cell in the trunk, just not sure if that is to far away from the Mechanical Pump. I understand it would need to be primed to work but if there is any good feedback I would appreciate it. Otherwise I will have to run a custom or little bitty fuel tank in the engine bay.

My apologies the car is a Convertible not a Coupe RX7 so the Full Cell would not be in the drivers area, in the trunk confined away from me. I'm not crazy:lol:

Also interested with others experience with the mechanical fuel pumps.

I run a 1.5 Rons Twin-Gear Pump with fuel cell up front. I don't have experience with running a mechanical pump with fuel cell in the rear. Rons are a great product. Give them a call. They'll be able to answer all questions.

Most people that run mechanical pumps run methanol and usually always have fuel cells up front. Priming the pump will be pita if you have the fuel cell out back. Everytime you start it for the 1st time you"ll be cranking for a while with that long of a fuel line. I mean IMO running the fuel cell out back with that much fuel hose on a mechanical pump is a unorthodox way of doing things from a drag racing stand point.

A lot of setups have the cell out back. Many say it's not bad getting a prime. But many that do it have a cable driven pump mounted at the back of the car with the cell. Another method is to use an electric pump to prime the system.

The cable driven mechanicals are run in many of the sprint cars, depending if your running -10 or -12 lines like most of us it may take a few more seconds to prime ( everone covered this)
I'm only running the baby areomotive but love my mechanical

In priming the pump isn't hard, all I have done in the past experience is, take the belt off and the bolt that holds the pulley on, just turn it with an electric drill and your primed. From what I'm getting in research on the pump is there is not length of hose specifically designated for flow rate. All I'm getting is 27 pounds of vac. And 360 gph.my concern is if anyone has ran a cell in the back, do you lose your GPH? Or will it matter if I just run bigger AN line, I should be good?

The flow rate will be reduced if your running a -10 or -12 fuel Line from front to back absolutely! But think about it if you blow into a 10ft garden hose and compare that to a 1ft garden hose the pressure flowing thru will change.

If many people do it like this method this should be a good solution for the OP. The electric pump is probably what I would do if I absolutely needed to use a rear fuel cell.

Think it's Kinsler, maybe Hillborn, that has some schematics of how to plumb in the electric primer pumpon their website. Basically T the electric pump into the feed line and use a check valve. Wouldn't need a big primer pump at all.

I been running a Aeromotive belt driven mechanical fuel pump with a rear mounted fuel cell in my drag car for years , the trick is the fuel cell needs to sit higher than the pump it self priming is only a problem if you let the car sit 2 or more days ! little spray you up and running ! also I'm on methanol !

For a while I ran my RX7 with the cell in the back and mechanichal pump...priming is a pain but I just took a small electrical pump on the feed to the mechanical and before I tried to start it used a momentary push button to turn pump on to prime mechanical..but ideally tank in front is always best as g forces will feed duel to pump instead of pulling it away as u go down the track :)

What's up Dee! This is Mike Janousek, thanks for the info brother. I know you gave up on triangles but you should check out my build thread.
