Ported 12a's on the bottle???

So, Fast street cars are nothing but trouble. So after a bit of time to think, I've decided on building a drag car. With hopes of rolling a 10! Carbed 12a, big bridge or peripheral, then a 250-300 wet shot on top. I've never been big into nitrous rotaries, but I'd love to build a fast none turbo car. 2500lb fb chassis with a little slick, I think 10's are right around the bend. Couple questions though. What fuel do you guys run? Anybody running straight methanol? Meth/alky blends? Expensive fuels, but filling a 3 gallon cell won't be the worst.
Just looking for a few opinions fro
people who have put big hits through a carbed 12a. I know there are some big nitrous guys on the club! Help a brotha out. Front tires will be lifted in 2013!

Judge Ito (the master of nitrous) had a 2nd gen running 10.0@136mph on a 225 hp shot of nitrous, PP 13B. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...nitrous&page=3

I would think it could also be done in a different chassis with a 12a

Loose10AE 06-28-12 01:43 PM

Very nice! That's flipping moving on a nitrous 2 rotor!

Loose10AE 06-28-12 01:49 PM

Makes me a bit less worried about hitting a 10 with a lighter stripped out 1st gen. Even a 10.99 would be tits.stock chassis, tii rear end, gutted, and a small tire slick, and I should have it... I hope. Proving grounds was just up here in Minnesota, and all triangles broke rather quickly. So 2013 should be good for me!

sen2two 06-28-12 10:34 PM

The TII rear will not go into a 1st gen. And even the gslse rear will not hold to a big shot and 10k plus rpm launches. 13" slicks will just spin as well. which im guesssing thats what you meant by "small tire slicks"?

Loose10AE 06-28-12 10:49 PM

Nah, 15". Probably a 26x8.5. With some good suspension work that's enough tire. I'll figure out a rear end in time. Bit by bit.

sen2two 06-29-12 08:10 AM

The most common, cost effective, and readily available rear end swap would be a ford 8.8

Loose10AE 06-29-12 11:06 AM

Yeah, I can get 8.8's in bulk for just pocket change. Grenade one, replace it overnight, go at it again the next day! Lol

Loose10AE 06-29-12 11:09 AM

A trans will be another thing to worry about. I kinda wanna run an auto due to the high reves and big spray. I've seen some bad misshifts kill some good cars. Maybe a turbo 350 would work. I dunno how the work with a rotary, I know the v8 guys can set good times with em.

ultimatejay 06-29-12 12:02 PM

Yeah a Ford 8.8 or 9" and you can get by with a TII trans. I never broke mine with 10k launches for 3 years but it might be a diff story with Nitrous. I would launch off with a two step then add the nitrous shot.

Loose10AE 06-29-12 01:48 PM

Give it the juice at te 60' you're saying? Or just as soon as the car feels planted to the track?

Loose10AE 06-29-12 01:52 PM

I'm gonna need to practice my launches on a n/a motor. Think a 2 step is really a good choice? Not saying it's not or anything. I'm just trying to figure this all out. Also, do you guys think a 62mm IDA is overkill? I mean, maybe a 50mm weber? Just figured pushing a big hit like a 300 shot might need the extra air flow coming in.

Loose10AE 06-29-12 09:20 PM

Also, anybody have some good input on running methanol? Good to run with nawz on a rotary?

sen2two 06-29-12 09:44 PM

You will not be able to run methanol with a Weber.

There are some Holley carbs that are purpose built for alcohol, I would look into that.

Also, with a carb that big, you will need a large peripheral, or gigantic bridge port.

wickedrx2 06-30-12 10:24 AM

I have a Holley 13b manifold for pheriperal
Motor for sale if u want to go that way . Just let me know

Loose10AE 06-30-12 06:01 PM

What an be done to make the weber usable? I just found a guy with a teminator 62mm and it won't cost me very much. Is it do-able? Or do I really have to move onto the next page here? Also, think I tracked down a guy with 8 12a housings! Might get to try out some different ports! Still wanna run a pp on the car. But I wanna learn how to doo a good bridge too!

Loose10AE 07-06-12 09:34 PM

Anybody? Alky/meth on a weber style IDA?

sen2two 07-07-12 09:01 AM

Sorry, but it can not be done. Your best bet for non gasoline alternative on Webers is E85...

But most get there best all motor power on lower octane gas.

Loose10AE 07-07-12 09:58 AM

Crap. Ethanol. I'll look more into fuel/carb setups in the future. Though I really should decide on that before I get too far into this build. Just wanna push some power out of this little motor! Unless I through more spray through it...

sen2two 07-07-12 12:51 PM

You can run a a normal 4 barrel style carb with alchohol. They have pre built alchohol ready carbs already out there... Just get a Racing beat or jay tech style manifold and your good.

But for what you are doing, regular gas would be good enough. A 150 shot on a correctly built motor would be plenty for most in a lightened 1st gen body.

interesting...any updates?

Loose10AE 08-15-12 07:09 AM

Won't be any updates for a while. Money needs to find it's way to me first. Over the winter there should be some good progress worth noting. Gonna try to figure out transmission choices in the next couple weeks too.

sen2two 08-15-12 07:01 PM

If you want something better than the stock TII, your best bet is a Doug Nash 4+1. Very affordable and just as strong as the big boy trannys.

jccNV 08-15-12 11:00 PM

CK the green datsun is using TII tranny

12a w/juice

I am running a 12a (totally stock core) ported RB intake, 650cfm Holley, 2 1/2" straight pipe header, 150hp shot of nitrous and run 112 octane VP. I'm running it in a sand rail so can't compare numbers. I also have the motor mounted sideways and run a snowmobile clutch drive.... I have it tuned to idle at 3,800 rpm's with the clutch engaging at 4,200 and shifts out at 8,400 rpm's. Have turned it as high as 10,800 on a wasted drive belt. We hit the nitrous at about 30' off the line. I have a timer to control the nitrous hit. The 1st motor lasted 6 years, just debugging the 2nd one now.
