No more missed shifts!

Thanks to Ari! I got a stillway shifter installed now. I cant believe I never heard of these before Blitzboy mentioned them. Nice piece of work. Anybody doing a faceplated tranny would greatly beneifit from one of these.

Little video showing how it shifts. (low boost) driving.

Nice!
Aren't those things like $700??
Looks like it would be pretty easy to fab.

C. Ludwig 06-09-11 11:29 AM

Showin the little man how it's done? :D

enzo250 06-09-11 11:42 AM

it's about time... I was getting tired of seeing your super slow 2~3 gear shifts..

Now go get your number.. :)

turboR1 06-09-11 11:56 AM

I cant believe you were having trouble with this tranny to me it made powershifting a breeze but I think I see where your problem was although its a moot issue now, your not holding the shifter properly on the 2-3 shift, use your palm more it naturally forces your hand to the right and avoids hitting 1st..

Looking good tho :) how you dealing with the downshifting ?

Yeah, I prced them out of Japan for 750 shipped. I lucked out and Ari had a used one.
I was thinking about trying to fab one or have a local machine shop do it but how many can really be sold? Not sure it would be worth it. But the shifter is nice. Peace of mind not to worry about ever missing a gear again!

Yeah, had one of my twins riding along, hence the low boost-rpm testing.

Working on it Enzo! My local track is done for awhile (tornado) but its only 1/8th mile anyway. Its been so hot here I am not even thinking about any racing till it atleast gets back to the 80's, but next time out I feel good about!

I never had the issue before, I guess when Paul mentioned the only week link was hitting between 3-5 it scared me! Down shift? whats that? If I need to go from 5th to 2nd (after coasting) I can go into 3rd, but screw rev matching, I cant stand to here any grinding so I dont even try anymore.

haha, yep I take exit ramps in 5th gear. Its road race practice for me I have to maintain enough speed through the turn to not lug it around lol.

sk8world 06-09-11 03:12 PM

I also have the jspec tranny so 5th is a higher gear ratio, makes it a little easier for passing while cruising down highway.

Now to find a free weekend to go try it all out were it matters!

Lol. I didn't even call him for the shifter but as we spoke he mentioned he had some crazy $$ shifter out in the trailer. I knew right away What it was.

I haven't rulled out a clutch less from my future yet. I will wait on anthony's outcome. My goal now is 9.7's @ 140+. After that I think things are going to get $$

C. Ludwig 06-09-11 11:55 PM

Thought Ray was making something for you? Did that not work out?

blitzboy 06-10-11 05:30 AM

cooool glad I pointed you to the right direction, now go and run that 9!!!

gusfd3s 06-10-11 07:36 AM

sweet... i just got my tranny from liberty :)

KNONFS 06-10-11 07:40 AM

Excuse my ignorance, but what does it do?

Indian 06-10-11 08:18 AM

it pretty much glides the shifter into third gear then fourth. So instead of actually "feeling" while power shifting all you have to worry about is slamming the gear stick in the upcoming next gear. It also locks out 5 and Reverse so you can not ever make a mistake.., then with a twist of the knob, you can get back your normal shifting patterns.

You still have to use the clutch if your on the stock gearbox... not sure about Sk setup though.. but if you cant use the clutch by now.. then your still in trouble. lol

Hope I didnt confuse you. I've been hunting the thing down for two years and still cant get it :(

Bids on the shifter when you go clutchless

RXTASY57 06-10-11 01:47 PM

I am thinking about fabbing some of these and selling them for half the price.
For some reason, the Japanese think their stuff is made of gold and rape you when they sell it to you.

Indian 06-10-11 01:58 PM

well if you do, pm me.. Im on board.. How long before you can have them rdy?

Pm me a price too cause the prices I hear people talk about vary....

silverfdturbo6port 06-10-11 02:04 PM

That would be cool if you can pull it off. I thought the same until I saw it upclose and decided it wouldnt be worth the trouble to sell a couple dozen or so.

If you do proceed I would try and make a slip that goes over the stock shifter. Would cut some cost. Then all you need to fab is the guide rails and decide how you want to make the slide stay up.

silverfdturbo6port 06-10-11 02:28 PM

how is the general shift engagement with those gears on the street? notchy or hard to get into gear?
