How would you launch my car?
 

I'm planning on hitting the track tonight with ET streets for the first time (first time on ETs not at the track) and am curious how you would launch the car? What tire pressure would you run in the ETs?

Stock tranny :( Almost everything else is in my vBGarage.

In the past, i've gotten a ton of wheel hop. I always have to let off in first and second, and my best was a 12.4 (i know, i know). The wheel hop is just killing me though, so hopfully the ET streets will help me out. From what i have read, I should not hop at all with them.

I would start out with 15 psi in the tires and launch it at 8k.

So balls to the walls, then?

I forgot, my clutch is a ACT 6-puck, so not much slipping is going to happen there

That's the clutch I have too. You could probably get away with launching it at 7k but I think if you launch it any lower than that, it might fall on its face.

launch too low and you will bog
too high and you will spin too much.

if you leave the line spinning though your end mph is generally higher but your 60 ft time suffers as well at the 1/4.


every car is different so it will take a few tries to find an optimal rpm, you can start high and go lower if you spin or start low and go higher if you bog.

Left drive shaft didn't like 7k on a sticky ET street, snapped it like a twig. I barely rolled the front wheel out of the beams. Going to upgrade to 300M axles. I'll post the vid once my friend rips it from his camera.

I was kind of expecting it, those were the stock axles with 80k miles on them, and i had been getting some bad wheel hop lately that probably weakened them as well.

I didn't slip the clutch at all either, which looking back probably wasn't a good idea. I just side-stepped it and *bam*.

I'm suprised it happened that quick, I know lots of people who really abuse their stock axles without any problems.

No sweat, Lupe. Just a good reason to upgrade.

I think my biggest problem was not loading the drivetrain properly. I think there may have been slack. I should have used the e-brake trick.

I think the problem was that your axles were already on their way out. They usually don't break on their first launch unless they've been previously abused :lol2:

how exactly do you preload the car when your at the line? I dont understand do you put the car in a rolling motion or something so all the power doesnt destroy the axle all at oncE?

I'm no 100% sure on this, so one of the more knowledgeable guys may give a better answer, but when you are creeping up to the prestaging lights, drag the e-brake a little so all the slack stays out of the driveline. Throw it down when you launch.

Now that you have axels.....drop the clutch at 8500 rpms with a sick 2nd gear burnout and prey you don't blow up your tranny or gears! Probably be good for a 1.3 60 ft!
