It is a Doug Nash 4+1. originally it is a pro shifted transmission but Liberty's transmission converts them to a face plate engagement. The transmission can be found for $750-$1000 and the conversion by it's self runs around $1100. I had a couple cracked gears, surface enhancement, and got a new shifter so it ended up running me $2500. If you had a nash that was in very good shape you could have as little as $2000 in a complete trans face plate and all. The cheapest trans that is comparable start off at $4500 so it's worth the wait.

Viking War Hammer 12-01-07 07:25 PM

Wow, that looks really nice and fast.

I like it, alOTT.

stickmantijuana 12-02-07 12:56 AM

what's the torque rating on it?

would it be a simple swap with a turbo 2 tranny from fd?

sorry if it's a dumb question...

stickmantijuana 12-02-07 02:14 AM

nevermind i asked that haha

looks good tho.

zbrown 12-02-07 07:29 AM

that looks like sex...

What kind of adapter or bellhousing do you use with this?

AnthonyNYC 12-02-07 08:44 AM

That's great info, thanks for sharing.

Allen
That shifter is going to make a world of a difference. No more selecting two gears at the same time.
You know there are a couple of little tricks that you can do to make that shit shift like a clutchless.
The tranny can almost pass for a gen1 G-force but with Liberity style internals. Craig really does a nice job with any tranny he puts his hands on. He actually repairs and improves on most of the competitors offerings.

Thanks Chris, that is actually one of the few components that i have spent that much money on and thought that i got more than i paid for. If it works half as good as it looks i will be very happy.

So, what are these tricks you speak of??? I was going to try and shift with the line lock/ two step button. Is there something else?

They told me to run either 80 W 90 mineral or 75 W 140 synthetic. That seems awful thick. I have talked to several people who have run 4+1 in the past and they ran either ATF with STP or 30W motor oil. I was thinking of running Sincromax. Do you think that would hurt anything?

It is a TII bellhousing and an adapter from G-Force. If i had it to do over again i would have just bought a mid plate from E&J that has a chevy bolt pattern then used a lakewood scatter shield.

Hmmmmm, I never knew about this adapter. I like it. Soo, what do you do about a starter? I hoping it still uses the factory flywheel.

LETHAL RX7 12-02-07 02:58 PM

Good choice.. a long shifter is the ONLY way to go.

Starter choice depend on flywheel used. The stock type flywheel would require the rear housing from an auto 13B REW/RE or 20B.

13B-RX3 12-02-07 04:08 PM

Speaking of starters Chris. I am running a TII starter and had to shorten the 5/R lever to clear it. I have had several people tell me that a GSL-SE auto starter will work. I tried that but the bolt pattern was off. Is there another way to do it or an i screwed?

Thanks

PS what about that shifting method????????????????

Im running a chevy adapter/mid plate to mazda bolt pattern on my new project also using a mazda cosmo auto starter with a browell bellhousing, now the flywheel is the tricky part, it has the holes for the mazda counter weight, the mazda cosmo ring gear intalled and the correct offset so the starter works correctly and it will accept a dual or triple 7" pro stock clutch, if you use the chevy starter you will have major problems starting the engine, flaco has all these parts available, same parts he runs in the rx8

zinx 12-02-07 07:29 PM

It looks great! Can't wait to hear about the results.

I just sent a stock tranny off to Liberty to get a basic rebuild and a few upgrades, nothing fancy like that though.

I never asked you this but, did you originally build your donk with the intentions of running a certain class ?

Did you ever think about running a auto instead ?

The chevy type starter works but you got to have a custom gear made for the starter. I've been down that road before.

Did the same also. It's the easiest method I believe.

Not really. I just wanted something different.

I like grabbing gears too much to put a auto in it.
