I am just getting my FD back on the road and plan to track it soon and need some tire for the back. Last time at the track on 265 street tires i spun through 3rd. I am running 467rwhp now but after i should be right at 500rwhp. Im looking at the ET street(slick) since im on the stock rear, suspension(besides eibach springs), and not trying to break lol. Was wondering what the common size is to run on the stock FD wheels and if you run tubes or not and what size if you do? Also any tips on launching on these with no two step:rolleyes:.

Is your stock rim tire replacement, 28in tall you will most likely run into rubbing and its to tall of a tire for the HP.
No need for tubes

With a stock rear and stock axles you WILL BREAK SOMETHING. Launching is brutal no matter what tire your running, et streets are much more forgiving than drag radials, but I’ve broken 3 inner axle cups, and 1 tranny tail shaft (I’ve got all the goodies besides the ERNIET spec axle/cups) sure all that carnage was over about 25 passes but it still happens….just be ready for what your getting into to ; -) its definitely worth it

tire pressure will have to get dialed in @ the track pending on conditions I usually start @ 14psi and drop in 1/2lb increments till you get consistent 60', some start @ 13, others @ 16

to launch rev to 7-7.5k dump the clutch and hold on,( put your right foot to the floor when your dumping or you’ll fall flat on you face) as soon as the car hooks the rpms will start to rise, the G force pinning you to the seat will lighten up and its time for 2nd gear already

to properly dial in your going to want to keep your launch rpm as consistent as possible this way when you change tire pressure you will be able to see the changes in you 60' and how the car hooks up.

If you spin the tires @ launch excessively lower the tire pressure (having someone video your runs makes this easy)
If the car hooks hard and bogs, give it more RPM

Only adjust 1 variable @ a time or you will chase your tail for a bit but all the above #’s are good starting points

You will find a happy medium

Awesome, thanks alot Bacon. Yea i know i will break stuff eventually lol, but i was talking to Ray at PFS and was telling me radials are much harder on the drive line then the et street(slicks). Now just to drop the engine in and buy tires:).

This is my setup. I broke my diff with ET streets on the first launch. I launch at 8k with a clutch dump. I get high 1.5 60fts on stock twins.

Are you launching off two step? Because i dont have a two step since i have the PFC and the HKS twin power and trying to figure out how high to drop it. Think i will try 7k but kinda of afraid for my diff. On street tires i was going from like 4 or 5k and dump and it would just spin.

Nice write up Bacon, you got me all amped up. Is ther a big difference between the 10.5's and 11.5's as far as launching?.... I see alot of people on the forum use both, any input?..

I can only say that my car has a 107k miles on the diff and well over 200 passes at the track. With 100 or so being on et streets. 1.56 60 footers ........ 10.6 best et



ALNY93R1, I have run 10.5s for awhile. I just put some 11.5's on to help with my wheel spin. So I will post the carnage or new best time in a couple weeks.

Well just got back from the track. I picked up a used set of ET's for cheap to try out and they are awesome. Well first run out i was at 16psi and rev'd up and down(no two step) till the yellow and hit the gas and popd the clutch(.090 rt:icon_tup:). It did spin alittle but managed a 1.618 0-60'(stock shock eibach springs) and a 11.101@126.5. Alot better than i expected and had room to go lower. But on the second run did my burn out, lined up, and launched and the diff said im out. So i didnt get another run. I have 475rwhp with full interior, a/c, ect. Now i gota hunt down a diff but alot better than a engine.

Man that sucks and rocks all at the same time.... I cant say why I havent lost my diff yet. Went last night and made a couple passes on the new 11.5's and still have bad tire spin in 2nd and 3rd. 60 footers were only 1.6's.

How much pressure in the tires, mike?

I can recommend for launching, et streets, chromoly axles, def get a TII or KAAZ diff (damn near indestructible), and the diff brace that Ray makes and sells, not the T style, but this...

and if you want, a trans brace. Ernie uses one and I had one on my car.

Well we got there around 11pm so by the time I got the car off the trailer and warmed up, etc.. I made my first pass at midnight. Spun very bad and hit rev limiter out of the hole. 1.7 60, 10.9 1/4. Second and final pass, let tire pressure down to 12psi. Car hooked and left out well. Again hit rev limiter before 60 foot mark, spun 2nd bad! 1.64 60 and 10.8 1/4. I dont have the 2nd pass logged but on the first pass I dropped the hammer @ 9100rpm! It droped to 8400 and was back over 9k very quick. Seems like they only preped the launch area. I should packed up when I saw all the decently quick cars quit running. It was the slickest shit I have ever raced on. I hook better on the street then that shit hole.

Yea i have a T2 diff i just pulled out of my parts car and will be fixing that up tomorrow. Yea im on stock axles and really cant afford those yet. Im kinda a budget racer untill next year(or i have a better job).
