HKS "drag" coilovers are NOT worth the money. And JIC's are good coilovers but not for drag racing. imho Don't waste your money on the HKS hype, they have way better and less expensive options out there for "real" drag suspension setups Mike.

Unless someone offers a good drag coilover setup, I would buy some QA1's or Strange and have someone toss together some mounts.

Front are important too, get a nice double adj to keep the front from crashing down and unloading the tires

Im wanting to try some stock springs like i have with some duel adj shocks.
Seems that some have done very well on them. I may race this weekend with the midwest supra meet and i need to better my time.

Ill probley break something but things have been to quiet latley.:(

Got off the phone with Dan Schechter today and we discussed springs and struts. He ran tokico's with ground controls. Thats just what I was going to order today. But decided to get his imput since he is at were I want be..LOL... He said I should go HKS instead..

Trust me. I would love to save some $ but I want a proven setup. I think I can pick up a good bit once I get it to hold better. I am running super stiff JIC's. I mean you can not even push my back off the car down a little. No give.. I am still cutting 1.5's but its after that when the cars rises back up and tires dont stay planted.......

So keep posting up what you have used and whats worked.

I will call him Friday. I actually tried last week but didnt get past Mary....LOL.... Are you running his set up? I thought he was just doing the koni yellow or tokico thing??

I am not set on the HKS ones just yet. If I knew they were the perfect thinSo keep the info coming......

I can't say what he's doing, but he has something in the making..... just give him a call and see what he's saying.

He's been off all of week before last and seems to be up to his neck in work this whole week. I've been trying to reach him too. I'll probably try my luck tomorrow too.

What I can say about the hks drag setup is that you have to KNOW what your doing or expect alot of broken parts. It's not for the "I don't know what I'm doing but I know the concept of drag racing" type of guy. You better do your home work and have time for testing your launching. Other than that, they have proven well in japan by Many "companies".

I myself were looking into these, but found them way too expensive for a 10th of a second. I ended up going with the tein flex and swapping the springs with some softer QA1's. They were ok, but my tires and the track were shitty while testing. I figure I'd get 1.5's out of them with a good tire and track.

After testing, I spoke to Ari about it, and he gave me some hope. lol

Buy cheap buy twice, Buy quality buy once.

I have been cutting 1.4s 60fts for the last 20 runs I have done, nice squat, tyres stay planted, hoping to get 1.3 60fts when I up the boost

I agree with you but if you follow Dan's car, he was cutting 1.3's with the ground control setup and ran 9.7's

Not sure if sk8world needs a street setup but I've read the HKS drag setup should not be driven on the street or you will destroy them pretty fast. Do you drive your car on the street with them?

Can't the JICs be revalved? If so you could have them setup exactly how you want them and not have to experiment.

Lol who told you that Anthony?? "destroy them on the street" hahaha who ever wrote that probably never owned the shocks and is another internet racer lol

Well been driving on the street for the last three years (20,000) miles on the HKS setup, fast road with corners as well , when I arrive at the strip I click the rear dampers to the softest level, after the strip click them back to the hardest setting

Yes they can. I spoke with JIC about this. They said send them in and they would convert them to my specs. I have NO clue what specs I want. I posted a thread on it and got no help so I gave up on this. Price was $200 a corner with new springs.

Anyone know what SPECS I would want?

I've talked to Koni about revalving a set for a car we're building. They are double adjustables that came off a road race car. Like you I have no clue where to start. The guy I talked to at Koni said they would be able to give us a good baseline if we can give them corner weights. Price for the koni service is similar to what you were quoted. It would seem the people at JIC should have a similar knowledge base and engineers and/or techs to help you out.

IDK about that.. JIC kinda worries me. I called them last time and asked about doing this and he said "or we could just build them to HKS's drag coilover specs." I said great, but what are those specs? He had no anwser. He said he would phone me back and never did.

I would talk to true choice or tri point about revalving the konis they have done 90/10 "drag shocks" for a friend of mine in the past

So I spoke with one of the tech guys at JIC today. He says they have charts and specs they will use to revalve the JICs to and spring rates. Big differance in spring rates. I am running 10's and 9's and he said they would be going to the same rates as HKS (4's and 6's). Cost is $220 a corner.

What you guys think? Going to cost me close to 1k for shipping and all. If they dont work I am out the money and have a worthless package. I could sell the jic's and just buy a new set of HKS's or go the tokico ground control route??

For that price I would sell the JIC and make up the rest of the money to buy the real mccoy's. It's too much of a risk for a grand. If it was less I would have said go with it.

So its down to 3 choices:

1. HKS drag coilovers $1800
2. Tokico/ Ground controll $1000
3. Revalvling my JIC's adding new springs $880



HKS uses 225LB on the rears and 337 on fronts. This sound too soft to you guys? If I order the GC or get the JIC reworked I have to pick my springs?? or could HKS use a differant chart?

Also just noticed Dan Schecter used 500lb springs on his (1.3 60 footer)
