thats what i was trying to do

How much power are you making? Was the flywheel resurfaced prior to clutch install? Its odd to see a smoked clutch like that so fast unless you flogging it on slicks and making gobs of power.

sk8world 05-15-11 10:29 AM

Is that one of those eBay , act knock offs?

Was it adjusted right?

Did you do a couple of big slips before the track?

If you adjusted- installed it right, all parts were new or resurfaced and you broke it in first (before you did burn outs). Crappy clutch o you need something with more clamping power.

I had a act new 6 puck kit fuse together on me. Not only was my clutch - pplate-flywheel toast but it hurt my tranny. Went with a xtreme kit and all was fine.

The clutch kit came from act website. It was adjusted right. It did three 600 plus horse power pases on the Dyno and four at track spinning tires like crazy.

sk8world 05-15-11 10:57 AM

Call act. They will take care of you.

What kit? Heavy duty or extreme?

I always have been told to do a few high rpm slips on a new clutch before the track.

But the fact that material came off makes me think I was bad material.

sk8world 05-15-11 10:57 AM

What tranny you running?

rotorious13b 05-15-11 11:00 AM

Nice car bori sounds healthy ,about the clutch if you don't want to spend 2000 bucks on a dual disc system this what you need (sintered iron disc )by ram clutches. they will cut the disc to your specs 225mm because they come only 10 inch disc...they hold up 700 to 800 hp no problem, disc value $200 bucks. Use with a good pressure plate problem solved !!! best of wishes with the car :icon_tup::icon_tup:

Note to self: ACT Extreme clutch - not so extreme

Only issue I was told was it might make shifting hard on the iron disk. That's what original I wanted.

I've read that the cintered iron disc slip a bit on launch but the hotter they get, the better the grab. Did they mention what would make it shift hard?

There is a front and back to the disk. :egrin:

Anthony, yes, Ari used to run one custom made from act. He was trying to get me one made. When I spoke to them they didn't think it would work to well shifting wise on a stock tranny. Not sure on my faceplated tranny.

Trots*88TII-AE* 05-15-11 06:50 PM

Honestly, just go dual sintered iron disk (Quartermaster/Tilton) and be done with it for good. The only expensive part is getting the flywheel for 7.25" clutches, after that you can source used dual-disk clutches on e-bay for peanuts, and either re-hub the disks or buy a couple new with the right spline for the TII tranny. :icon_tup:

The only reason I think it shifts hard is that it doesn't dis-engage as cleanly as organic discs, any contact between it and the pressure plate/flywheel makes it hold on. There is literally zero slip on the sintered iron. I felt like a 16 year old girl learning to drive stick on my first drive out with it!

But I thought Ari was running a stock tranny? Surely the sintered iron worked alright for him, considering he holds the record with it and all!

If you are using the 12A slave cylinder with the turbo II tranny your hanging up the throw out bearing and causing the pressure plate to slip and burning out your unit. I've seen this happen many a times. you need to make sure your using the turbo II slave cylinder.

Oooooo yes I am using the 12a slave. Thanks for the info. You think I could still use the same pressure plate and clutch(new) set up or use that Ram clutch

He set the record on stock tranny but also ran a gforce and went a little quicker.

Ok no more thread jacking. Thanks to Ito someone actually was able to help you out.

Similar thing happened to a member on MSF.org with his BT speed3. I believe he had a ACT 6 puck go bad after 3 passes at the track with slicks. His car isnt built, so at most its pushing out somewhere between 360-385 wheel.

Im fairly certain it was a 6 puck.

Would hold fine for daily driving, but boost in any gear and it just slips.
