What upgrades to get ~330rwhp safely?
I just recently purchased a stock '93 RX-7. After the purchase I quickly found out that these engines are unreliable. I do not know much about rotaries, but always have wanted to own a RX-7. What would be the "safest" way to get about 330 rwhp from a RX-7? What parts should I get? I'm also looking for tuners in SoCal, I know of rotary power usa in gardena, are there any others?

go to lucky seven, or rene's muffler shop. that is close to downtown la.
PM me for info. Ken |
Downpipe
Midpipe Catback Intercooler Intake PowerFC or rechipped ECU and increase the boost. |
The main thing needed to make the rotary safe is fuel...more is better.

Do what Mahjik said. |
A properly modified rotary can easily be a 300+ HP daily driver....did it with a 91 turbo 2 and currently daily driving a 320 HP FD getting ready to tune for a little higher boost/HP. This is after 3 years up careful modifications and upgrades. The engines that blow are the ones that get pushed to the limit or the ones that are'nt modified right.

Yup...thats the only thing bout rotaries....they love to make bountiful amounts of power...it just requires more and more fuel to do so....safely.

After 3 years, of mostly car being in shop and garage I've finally completed. I'm getting 390 to the wheels @ 18 psi. Took the car to Jeff @ Rotary Power and been in and out of there for the last 3 years. Spent way over what I would have liked, but we'll see if car will hold. Bought the car with 33,XXX miles and now I have 35,XXX miles. As you can see it was barely driven, and I took it up to Mammoth (from LA 300-350 miles) once to get break in new engine.
Will get you guys a list of my setup later. |
congratulations on your journey. 3 years is along time and i know what it's like to have to wait until a project is complete, plus you ended up exceeding your original goal. that's terrific. you waited, now enjoy your car. :)
