What gear for dyno pull?

Not sure if this is the right section to ask, but.
Here in Japan they pull in 5th gear. What gear is better and why? They really did not give much of a reason why they pull in 5th gear. They claim more power in 5th gear, right/wrong? 5th gear pulls are long (time), 3000 to 7000rpm's.
Thanks

The norm is 3rd or 4th. The general rule is you want to be as close to a 1:1 ratio.....for us RX guys thats 4th gear. The only reason i see to use 5th would be more for tuning purposes than giving true hp and tq #s.

Would a 5th gear pull hp numbers be higher or lower then a 4th gear pull? Or does it matter? Can the dyno be adjusted for 5th gear pulls?

5th gear gives more load.

I would think 5th gear would show a bit more hp than any of the others. In 5th your turbo has time to "catch up" with more load. You know how your car feels faster in 3rd gear if you first ring out 2nd then go into 3rd vs just flooring it in 3rd? 5th gear is better for tuning also but I'm sure you know that. Ever try to tune for boost in 1st gear? haha :)

I can see 5th gear being a better gear to tune at. Thanks guys. Just use to the 4th gear stuff from the states.

The #s would be lower in 5th. Yes there is more load but the gearing comes into play in 4th. Same applies for the tq #s.

The shop name is KSP here in Japan.
Just wanted to make sure about the numbers before posting any.

The dyno measures the power put into the system by the car, not the force being put onto it at any point in time. Power doesn't care what gear you're in. It takes just as much *power* to take a car from 10 mph to 50 mph in 2nd gear than it takes to do the same in 5th gear.
