I was thinking it would be nice to have streetports and peripheral ports on the same engine. There would be a seperate throttle body for each port (6:D) and there would be some type of oil pressure solenoid that would open or close the peripherals. The hardest part would be locating the "valve" that will open the ports because I would think that it would be best to make it as close to the inner part of the housing as possible. Do you think if you made it on the outside of the housing, and thus when it was closed had a "pocket" of air, that would mess up something. I think it might compress some air into that pocket as the volume decreases, however then it would just come out in the next chamber. Any and all insight appreciated.

very true swoop, but think of the potential power out put, you could potentialy combine evry trick for making rotary power into one killer engine!

yea!!

despite some feedback that i should forget about it....

im going to try and go ahead with it. I think that if i find a way to make the peripheral port throttle bodies open only at high rpm that would be the easiest solution. However i may end up having some kind of sleave or something in the intake manifold and then only use 2 or 3 throttle bodies.

This to me sounds like a killer idea!! Would this be on a turbo motor? It would make some extra tuning issues to deal with. If you are running a stand alone engine management, you could use one of the extra outputs to maybe control a small servo motor. Or maybe just have it throttle controlled but have it on a boost pressure switch or something to keep them closed before a certain amount of load. I like people that think like you do! Don't let anyone get you down, and if you need any help with machine or fabrication work on the intake manifold, I will do what I can. Let me know!

Using a custom version of the VICS intake system that came on the Mazda FE3T motors sounds like the answer.

"The intake manifold is very unique. The intake manifold system comes with 2 plenums. The first one is the one you see outside the engine when you see it. The second one is for the VICS system. The VICS system is called Variable Interia Intake Control System. The system works very simple...As the engine is at idle up to 4400rpms, the VICS system has secondary plates in the intake runners. But when the engine is in this operating range of rpm's of idle up to 4400 rpm's, this extra air is held in the secondary plenum. So imagine if turbocharge? What ever pounds of boost you are running, that boost pressure is held in the secondary plenum chamber. The primary intake system works just like the F2/F2T engine. When the engine reaches 4500 rpms, the ECU opens the secondary plates, and release the held air or pressure to rush into the intake ports, and allow the engine to get air from two different ways, thus increasing the breathing on the engine"

what if you had the sideports with stock size and then for the periphial intake and exhaust ports, instead of being one large port opened at once, what if they were 4 or 5 smaller long/oval shaped ports (with the 1st on on the exhaust having the same area as stock and then the rest smaller increments). there would be a plate over the small increment ports for the exhaust and intake and would be controlled by rpm with the plate uncovering another port in a slightly different rpm range. this way you have the low end of stockports, the high end of a race periphial port, and everything in between! this would obviously mean more work cause you would have to fabricate custom housings along with teh intake manifolds and the mechanisms to control the opening of the ports. but imagine how awesome that engine would be..... a streetable n/a rotary with power throughout the entire rpm range peaking over 300hp! :D

So what if Mazda or some Tuner thought of this earlier.. C'mon guys.. The feasibility of the tech breakthroughs you just discovered are not practical.

It's been done, I saw pictures of it in a Japanese tuner magazine a while ago, they called it a sequential port. I'll see if I can dig it up.

take a look at the focus SVT , to get the 170hp ( from 130hp ) without doing much work to the exsisting engine they made a milti lenght intake runner setup that had an rpm/load based butterfly valve in it seems to be the kind of setup you ae looking for, just neds to be adapted to the configuration you want..
