Vmount vs smic
I know there's lots of threads that focus on vmounts vs fmic vs smic. But none really get to the point of whether a smic is better than a vmount. I've had different people tell me different things. Car is basically stock right now and I've been eyeing up the hks vmount kit as it just looks amazing. However I'm not sure what would be more worth while. Getting the vmount and somehow fitting up a better intake system (running hks pods atm) or going smic and running the autoexe cold air intake as it'll fit with the smic but not the vmount.
What's the intake temps like for the vmount vs the smic and which is better for a car that's daily driven but still taken to twisties on the weekend? Living in australia so temps range from about 10-35 degrees Celsius |

I had M2 Large SMIC with Koyo N-FLO for a couple years, then switched to GReddy Vmount for about a year now. The SMIC was used with the M2 duct, and the Vmount has all the GReddy metal shield but no extra foam to seal off the small openings.
Here's my observation. - The Vmount doesn't heat soak as bad as the SMIC in traffic, my guess is once the fans turn on they pull the heat away from under instead of feeding the heat up to the SMIC. - Intake temp drop a lot faster once you get moving after heat soak in traffic. - Highway cruise on a cold Fall night (~40F), commander shows IAT in single digit with the Vmount, with SMIC the lowest IAT I have seen are in the teens. I think one of the advantage Vmount has is the bigger bumper opening to get air to the IC core, while SMIC has to settle the small opening of the duct. |

ah i see. i thought you meant you see 10F AIT with 40F ambient with air-to-air IC which is impossible. my bad.
