UK 500m Drag event results (road cars, no slicks)- NEED to win next time...
As title, NEXT TIME ill be in "somthing" rotary engined, but how dificult (and how much power/mods on 98octane fuel) do you think it will be to beat these times in an latest shape Rx7??
These cars are fully road legal, no slicks, and not modded for drag racing in any way, jus modded street racers, all were either "daily drivers" or weekend fun cars. REMEMBER- 500M! not usual 1/4mile! (and terminal speeds in mph not kmh) (500m resuslts. All cars 4WD unless stated) 1)-Skyline R33 GTR 11.97sec@142mph 2)-Escort Cosworth 12.40sec@129mph 3)-Skyline R33 GTR 13.10sec@130mph 4)-Skyline R34 GTR 13.13sec@127mph 5)-Skyline R33 GTR 13.22sec@126mph 6)-Skyline R33 GTR 13.27sec@129mph 7)-Skyline R33 GTR 13.32sec@133mph 8)-Skyline R33 GTR 13.33sec@125pmh 9)-RS Cosworth 13.39sec@129mph (RWD) 10)-Focus WRC 13.49sec@131mph (RWD) The top 2 cars looked unbeatable, but i HAVE to beat em, WITHOUT going and buying a 700bhp skyline... Cheers, Steve |
sounds like a pretty cool race :)

yup
Greg- it was!
In USA a lot of people swap to baloon slicks etc on road cars for drag events and you get awesome times. In the UK this trends never caught on and everybody runs fully road legal (hence why the 4wd cars usually kick ass!). That and the fact that the runs is over 500m (ie well over normal drag length) makes the times all the more mad. The top cars times over the 1/4mile are in the low tens id guess by the 500m time, and i forgot one BIG BIG thing, after the 500m they carried on for a top speed run over 1.3miles and the winning skyline got 196mph! nearly all got over 170mph (all in top 10 did). There was only 1 rx7, had 400bhp, huge single turbo, motec managment, and anti-lag/launch control for 10psi boost at standstill! (and huge flames!) Most cars there were either the aformentioned skylines n cosworths, supras (which were complete rubbish IMO, even the 750bhp one wasnt that special IMO) mitzi evo's, sunny/pulsar gtir's, and various other crazy stuff like a Porsche GT2. Everything had over 400bhp, most over 500bhp, at least 10 over 600bhp. Oh forgot to say the Dodge Viper Owners Club came to play... 2 were fast, most got destroyed... Ill see if i can find the whole of the results somwhere... |
others i didnt mention
heres some others i didnt menrion under 14secs (500m, no particular order, and some top speed results too (1.3miles). all 100% road legal....
62mph=100km/h 500m Sprint--- RX7 Turbo 14.49sec@121mph RWD Toyota Supra 12.96sec@138mph RWD Porsche 911 13.23sec@127mph RWD Dodge Viper 13.84sec@125mph RWD Dodge Viper 13.98sec@129mph RWD Mitsubishi Evo 5 12.43sec@135mph 4WD Subarau Impreza Turbo 13.45sec@126mph 4WD Mitsubishi Evo 4 13.56sec@118mph 4WD Golf Mk1 13.80sec@122mph 4WD!!! Sunny/Pulsar GTI-R 13.83sec@125mph 4WD Subaru Legacy Turbo 13.92sec@117mph 4WD 1.3mile Sprint--- Skyline R33 GTR 196.6mph 4WD Mitsubishi Evo 5 187mph 4WD Toyota Supra Turbo 185mph RWD Skyline R33 GTR 183mph 4WD Porsche 911 GT2 183mph RWD Skyline R33 GTR 179mph 4WD Toyota Supra Turbo 178mph RWD Skyline R33 GTR 178mph 4WD RS Cosworth 177mph RWD Skyline R33 GTR 177mph 4WD Focus WRC 177mph RWD Skyline R34 GTR 176mph 4WD Dodge Viper GTS 174mph RWD Toyota Supra TT 174mph RWD Dodge Viper GTS 174mph RWD RS Cosworth 174mph RWD Escort Cosworth 173mph 4WD Escort Cosworth 171mph 4WD Toyota Supra TT 171mph RWD RS 500 Cosworth 170mph RWD For 500m+1.3miles, fully road legal, inc pump fuel, none modded purely for drag racing at all, jus fast road racers, it was pretty damn impressive. Have vid of the 2 fastest skylines launching on the day, it has to be seen to be belived! id attatch it to this post if i knew of an uploader i can use.... anyone? So, back to main point of post, over the 500m and hopefully the 1.3miles, can and how can a fully road going rx7 beat these skylines etc? esp as by next event i think they will b even more powerful, and the publicity this event got has made some really stupidly fast cars want to do it next time... NO stupid "road legal, but hardly road drivable" cars allowed, as there is a handling circuit they all have to do, (at one hell of a speed!) too! Nothing pre 1980 either. Hope this is interesting to y'all as i dont wana b one of those dicks who fill bb's with irrelavant rubbish. Cheers, Steve |
that sounds like alot of fun!
|
its great, i cant wait till next time, much better than normal 1/4mile or 400m sprints as with 500m+1.3miles its more about big big bhp rather than grip.

can you run drag radials like Nitto or BFG??? They have tread and at street legal so I guess they would be good.
How do these cars compare to 1/4 mile, in other words what does a car running 13 second 500m run in the 1/4? I can imagine it take that long to clear the last couple hundred feet when your going 120+. STEPHEN |
tyres
Yea, they COULD run these rims, but nobody does, as i dunno, i think everyones against the DRAG car thing (theres not many straight roads in this country so we all got cars with rock hard race suspension and handle like circuit racers), everyone sticks to their 17/18/19inch rims and low profiles.
I THINK, for the faster cars (all the ones mentioned really) it would take between 1.5seconds (for the fastest) to around 2.5 seconds for the slower (of the ones mentioned) to do the final 100m. So the fastest one did the 400m in around 10.5secs, the went on to 196.6mph on same run! (in 1.25miles) The 400m times may well be less actually as ive personaly seen at least 2 of the Escort Cosworths (which did high 13's low 14's over the 500m) run low/mid 11secs over the 1/4mile. What i do know for sure is that a slightly less powerful (700bhp rather than around 750bhp) Skyline did 0-100mph in 7.6seconds on full road tyres a couple of months ago... And theres many over here with over 800bhp, and at least one with 1000+bhp... not fair! |
